what a shame . When I was first hired in 94 at Mesaba , MSP was the best station for years and years with NWA . Now it’s sad what’s happened there with the ground services .

I miss red bread trucks and the perfect fit of saabs in the A concourse.

New hires beware: I hope you like min days off and not seeing your families. The mock award is showing just about everyone at min days off for March. That's 10 days for lineholders and 11 for reserves. This is due to our management not having us adequately staffed for the growth. Your QOL will not be good for the foreseeable future and you will have very little time off. Forget having a work life balance.

yes, it seems they are going to the Skywest staffing model

This is dramatic, and it's also mostly not true. I'm looking at the mock for NYC 900 FO right now. It looks like about half of lineholders have 13+ days off, some up to 16, and about 1/3 of lineholders got credit pushed and have minumum (10) days off, with the remaining percentage having 11 or 12 days off.

Contractually, reserves get 11 days off in a 28 day bid month, so that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Are we adequately staffed? No. Is "just about everyone" at min days off? No...not even close.

I know a 28 year guy that is showing 13 days off, and not voluntarily. Most lineholders are 10-11 days off because management nearly stopped hiring for a while and now is hiring only minimally. We lost 46 last month and hired less than 40. It's not overdramatic, it's simple math. We are growing at 2-3 planes per month, but our seniority list is shrinking. It's simple math. New guys need to know the truth, not company propaganda. We are understaffed and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. Unless Daddy D lets go of their big ego and starts thinking about the F word AND we significantly increase our training capacity, understaffing, credit pushes, and min days off are what the future holds.

We need 80-90 pilots per month to hire for attrition and growth. The last class had 7 people. Like I said, if you want QOL and work-life balance, do not come here.

My mock shows 13 days off. You're distorting the truth. This is also a short month.

sorry but you’re wrong as days off decreasingly go down fatigue and sick calls go up as will attrition. The contract days off are a contractual minimum not the exact number they have to allow. Over staffed to understaffed in a few months? It’s called poor planning by Planning. Now everyone will suffer for their inability to
see more than one month at a time

You are being a little hyperbolic. Lots of general statements, and "I know a guy" not much fact.

Just looking at NYC 900 FO mock.
200 lines
Line 147 is 13 days off all commutable
Line 134 is 14 days off somewhat commutable
Line 129 is 15 days off somewhat commutable

I didn't look at the other bases yet.
There is some truth to your statement that there are fewer days off this month. Buuut
It's a 28 day month so everyone gets one fewer say.
It's March, one of our busiest months of the year. Just look at aircraft utilization in the bid pack.

And not for nothing but a lot of (Junior) FO's I talk to are thrilled to be flying now, and their biggest complaint was sitting around not doing anything.

=12pt

I don’t have an issue with your overall point, which seems to be that we are understaffed, career progression isn’t as good as at the AA WOs, and that isn’t likely to change anytime soon. I agree. My issue is that you said “look at the mock—almost everyone has 10 days off.” That led into “you won’t have QOL and you’ll never see your family” etc etc. So I open the mock, and the top half of lineholders in the position I looked at average at least 14 days off, if not more. I’ve had min days off for a lot of my time here, and I felt like my QOL has been ok and I’ve seen my family plenty. But I live in base, so maybe I’m not an accurate representation of our pilot group.

I think your overall point is valid, valid enough that it doesn’t need exaggerated claims to support it.
