When you do elect to upgrade you then fall into the same year of service pay that you previously held as a FO, correct?

Thanks.

To me it's short sighted not to take the upgrade...i get that the flow is working as advertised but we all should know there are no guarantees in this business. And upgrading is hedging against something getting screwy with AA. It will make your resume more competitive, and also might as well challenge yourself a little more while you're at it.

But you took a bid, right? That's more what I'm talking about, guys that are choosing just not to upgrade. (The seat lock issue is a separate issue, in that situation I can understand it)

Yea exactly, when you upgrade you add a totally different outlook and purpose to your job too. It's hard to see it because you get comfortable but it's way better to be a CA on reserve than a senior FO.
