Default IOE Displacement

Can a captain be reassigned flying as an FO after being displaced from his original sequence, if multiple FO reserves are available to fly the sequence? Asking for a friend....

The contract says only if no FO reserves are available. I'll try to find the reference, standby.

Edit: section 12.G.a says: The assignment of Reserve Captains to First Officer flying will be done after all Reserve First Officers in domicile and all Ready Reserve First Officers in domicile are assigned to flights (as specified in Section 11.I.1.c.1-5) and are unable to complete the assignment.

The problem is: the captain is a line holder. Thus, scheduling claims that section 12 doesn't apply.

I didn't think line holders were permitted to be forced into the right seat. I'll look.

Obvious question but did they put it on his schedule by noon the day before?

I can't find anything in section 11 permitting line holders to be reassigned into the right seat. I would have your friend ask scheduling what part of the contract allows a line holding CA to be forced over there with reserves available. Also have him email [email protected] (that's contract compliance) and get their take. They are usually pretty quick about responding.

Oh yea, he's already in touch with ALPA. Union is taking the position of: where in the contract does it say you can do that, while scheduling is taking the position of: where in the contract does it say you CAN'T do that. Might be a fly-it-and-grieve-it situation.

Update: The CA was removed from the sequence. I'll leave details out for anonymity reasons.

Good. That's complete garbage. If you can post what convinced scheduling to remove him it could be helpful for folks if they ever try that again. If not I get it.
