Default Displaced FO / Seat Lock / Jet Change

This may have been addressed and I missed it, but while an FO displaced to Captain is not subject to a seat lock, will they be subjected to 'metering' on equipment changes? I'm under the impression that vacancy slots are limited for existing captains changing equipment. So say one gets displaced to the CRJ and finishes training, then wants to move to the 175 in a later vacancy bid, is that going to be a problem?

Yes. The contract allows for only 30% of captain vacancies to be filled by existing captains. The situation you described would count towards that 30%.

Do the guys who are already captain qualified in the airframe such as DCL to OCL or NCE to MCE count against the 30% ? What about the guys who were reshuffled out of the OCL to other airframes/locations?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but only 30% of each CA vacancy can be filled by captains changing equipment. The balance is upgrades. My question - and I think the answer provided by Jersdawg, is that once you are a qualified captain, your ability to transfer to another jet is limited by that 30%.

Changing base does not count to the 30%

Only equipment counts, not base transfers.

I had a class date for OCL from DFL set. Then got displaced to OCC. When the next bid runs, might I be able to get back to OCL? I hadn’t heard of this 30% thing. Most junior 175 CA is 25 sen numbers above me. I’m sure it’s impossible to say for sure. New to all this. Thanks.

You can bid for it, all you can do is try. Who the hell knows with this complete clusterfluck of the last two bids how ANYTHING will pan out.

So this is what you do! Preference for an FO spot. You will get it on paper and then have your displacement for the CA spot you want.

Before relying on this information clear it with the union. Also this ONLY works if you haven't finished your FED ride.

The contract says up to 30% of captain training slots can be taken by those requiring “R3 or equivalent training”. I couldn’t find that definition anywhere though.

Would a pilot who holds a 175 type as an FO and then has been displaced to another type as captain require R3 training to go back to the 175 as captain?
