Civilian OTS hires might increase a bit, but nowhere near the amount that you're hoping they will. AA management has already been on the record at a town hall meeting in the past that they want to secure the majority of non flow slots for military pilots. Not to mention, it's only February and they've already fallen behind on hiring.

I read on the AA forum a while ago that a guy retiring from the military got called for his interview, he did his 20 years.

During the interview he was very candid and let them know he hasn’t flown in over 12 years, working a desk position. They interview committee said don’t worry, it’s a non-issue.

He got the welcome aboard call a few days later.

They love military guys. People who ask me how to become and airline pilot I tell them to graduate college, go to the military and fly heavies. Then after 8yrs apply to any major you want and you will be called within 1month. 8yrs in military or 8yrs at a regional....

A guy that flew the same corporate airplane before me and had zero 121 time and a DUI got a interview call and a job at AA back in November2017. He told them about the DUI and they said it didn’t matter and he got the job. He knew a couple people there but no big shot executive that I’m aware of.
