Sorry grandparents, I'm not saying I have to carry a lot of crap compared to you guys (or that I have to drag it uphill both ways in the snow), but what I am saying is that I don't have a lot of room left in my flight bag. esp. if I am smuggling a water bottle in there.

the most obvious solution would be to take some of that crap you have in your bag out :)
or get a bigger bag

You don’t have to carry the mount. And it would have taken less time to lookup a pivot case and see what it was than even your first post.

looked it up, appears to be a case that can hold the iPad upright when it’s laying flat on a table. clearly not the right thing.

Why are we jumping on someone asking a simple question? Who cares if his bag is packed tight, maybe they like to travel light.

Anyway, the new case is better as is the mounting system.

because
1. Why not? I wasn't being mean about it
2. Otterbox is about as bulky as it gets outside of the battery cases
3. The OP said "flight bag". The flight stuff in my flight bag includes the ipad, headset, spare batteries for the headset, flashlight, couple of pens, yellow vest... and that's about it, really. Also in the is a whole ton of crap. How exactly ipad case bulkiness can make it or break in in the flight bag is beyond me, so I cued in for further discussion.

Then you would know that the case is only half of the system and the mount is the other. As the other poster said, it is square. The mount doesn’t need to change orientation. You can attach your iPod in the case whichever orientation you want. Thus, no need to adjust the mount of you don’t like the way the (vertical or horizontal) the previous person used.
