MIA or DFW

How long is it taking a new hire to bid MIA or DFW ?

ZeroTT 11-04-2021 01:23 PM

Mia is a special case as it’s 175 only. If You are assigned 145 in training, which apparently happens to most people who are not in the cadet program, you cannot go to the 175 until upgrade.

How about DFW. ? Also where would a new FO possibly be able to fly more in the beginning? DFW or ORD ? Also where could one achieve a line sooner ?

Nobody has any idea what the next 12 months will bring. Pick the easier commute and buckle up

If I am already typed in the 175 do I get it? Or will it still depend on class seniority and all that…

Next bid, if on schedule, will be announced in December.
whatever you put in now won't matter much
But -
3P/ORD/CA/ATR/D Enter a bid preference3P/MOVE 1 to 5 Move a bid preference3P/CANCEL 1 Cancel a standing bid, this cancels choice number 1 3D/LAX/FO/SF3/D Enter displacement preference3D/MOVE 1 TO 3 Move displacement preference3D/CANCEL 3 Cancel displacement preference, number 3 from list

3* to check. DFW/ORD/MIA, E75 and EMJ I believe for the 145

It is entirely possible that DECS will not allow you to enter the bid until the next vacancy opens.

You mean there is an actual source document that can be referenced instead of asking anonymous people people on the internet??!!

At least it isn’t the 2-star dump they keep us at in DFW.

Thats a compliment...

It seems like every hotel they put us in DFW is from the 70s and never updated

NoValueAviator 11-13-2021 05:57 AM

This is going to be painful for some of you but DFW hotels are a dump because DFW is a dump. Sorry not sorry.

Maybe around DFW airport. Certainly not the DFW metro. Here is what is regarded as the finest and one of the largest hotel in the south. It has 1,600 rooms. In the hotel they have 1,000 art objects. https://www.hiltonanatolehotel.com

Definitely not everything in DFW metro is ghetto. It’s just that Envoy tends to embrace the locations which are, because “great is what they’re (not) going for”.

You need to spend more time in actual D or actual FW.

Irving is kind of a dump.

Builds character

You guys shouldn't be defending DFW. You travel, so you must know better.

Just want to clarify. Are we talking about DFW, the airport. DFW, the area around the airport. Or DFW, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex?

Because it makes a huge difference as to whether it's defensible.

While all three are not equally trash, all three are trash.

I specifically said DFW metro. Every city has low rent areas and most airports have them immediately around them.

But let’s face it, the problem isn’t the location, the problem is the company. You can find much better locations if you’re willing to look and spend the money.

Absolutely wrong! When was the last time you overnighted in ORD area?

I use a long time urban airport and a greenfield (1972 farm fields) as comparison. Generalization has exceptions.

STL, a long time airport, has a bunch of junky areas around the airport. While there are a few very nice hotels (Hilton, etc.) most of the nicer mid priced are non existent.

MCI, built in 1972 among the cows and corn fields has both very nice hotels and plenty of nicer mid priced.

The hotel Envoy uses at MCI is definitely not even close to “nice”.

Compared to moderate priced hotels around STL airport, I would find it difficult to find a MCI hotel around the airport that would be worse.

Given a choice between where Envoy stays in STL and MCI, I would take the STL hotel any day. Even taking location into consideration. At least the hotel in STL gives you three reasons to forget who you work for.

duck of death 11-20-2021 06:54 PM

Yeah MCI hotel is trash .

Does Envoy have a committee to address accommodations? If MCI is that bad, sounds like something that needs to be worked. Especially since there are a bunch of medium priced hotels around the airport that are decent.

MCI hotel isn’t great but it’s not atrocious, Republic stays there, AA FA’s stay there, I believe maybe someone else. The hotel itself is fine it’s just there’s NOTHING around.

We have a hotel committee, they’ve done a pretty solid job getting us out of the worst hotels and finding us gems like TUL and LIT. We just need to get out of IND and BUF.

dera 11-20-2021 09:56 PM

MCI overnight does suck, but the hotel has a bar and the BBQ next door is decent. ENY MEC has a very good hotel committee, and they are doing a good job on weeding out the real dumps like EVV. Without contractual hotel language, they have a tough job, and they are pretty amazing at what they do.

TUL is definitely a gem. Same hotel as most of the big boys.

Agree the hotel committee has improved some of the worst hotels. But like anything, different people have different preferences. Some people care more about the hotel and some care more about the location and what may be around it or how close it is to the airport itself because they don’t want a long van ride.
