The high speed rail is the way to get between the two. It makes a day trip possible. Travels between St Pancras and Gare du Nord and I think its about $250 round trip.
Paris - my wife has joined me on a few stays there. Its probably my favorite city as its so easy to get around and never boring. I wouldn't stay anywhere near the Eiffel Tower, its just a very touristy and noisy area, best visited briefly by Metro.
Our favorite area is Montmartre. Its the hilly, artist area near the Sacre Coeur. Tons of sightseeing, markets, and great restaurants. A central, nice hotel is the Terass Terrass Hôtel ? Hotel If you have any relationship with Dassault or Signature Le Bourget they usually have good rates.
Another area I like is the Left Bank area of St Germaine Des Pres. Its the trendy area along the Seine.
We did one stay at a nice hotel in the 17th district called the Hotel Banville. Great, large rooms and great rates. Its in a quiet area, kind of like a NY upper west side) but only about 100ft from a Metro station. Our room had a great Eiffel Tower view. Again, the room was very big, especially by Paris standards. ~ 4 star Hotel Paris - Hotel de Banville - Luxury hotel Paris 17 : Hotel Champs Elysees Paris - OFFICIAL WEBSITE
My .02 is to avoid anything along the Champs and any of the bigger chain hotels like in le Defense area. Its not the city to be a Marriott lover....all you will be doing is wasting time walking and taking the metro to the best areas.
Enjoy!

Now Corporate,
I checked out those two hotels you listed. They look great but are over my budget unfortunately.
Any other suggestions that might be around 200 Euros/night?
We are really excited about this trip, wish i had more coin to blow!
Thanks guys

Much better than a hotel. More options, more room, cheaper, and better locations. When I went to Paris, I was a 5 min walk from the Eiffel Tower and a 30 seconds walk from a metro station. I had an entire apartment for $120 US a night.

At least 12 or so years ago I stayed at the Hotel du Bois near the Arc de Triomphe. Close to the subway and at least back then there was a nice coffee shop near by and a great bistro for dinner down the street. Hotel was nice, clean and wasn't expensive.

Edit: of course it looks like the rates have increased since then, but check it out.

Check out ricksteves.com go to travel tips and surf around. Tripadvisor.com and hotels.com are also good. Best European travel tip. Take half the clothes and twice the money you will think you need. In France try to dress up a bit and learn a few words of French. I would not wear clothes that advertise your school or favorite sports team or beer or your night at the monster truck rally.
