Headset
Are there specific headsets that ExpressJet allows (or requires) its pilots to use? I’m unfamiliar with the TSO requirement that I’ve heard about, but I’d like to get the Bose QC35 and the Harmony headset from UFlyMike. I’m used to lugging around tons of extra bags and equipment from my military travel, and if I’m looking to travel light. If I can pare it down by having dual use headphones/headset for dead heading and to use while flying, I’d like to do that.

the company has 3 DC's in every plane, and you can bring your own no problem. Whether it's TSO'd or not is between you and any feds that may care to ask. The Harmony system is TSO-pending (I think you'll have to mail it in for the individual test/sticker once they get the all-clear from the FAA), so probably not a bad investment if you want something that's easier on the ears than a DC headset, and easier on the skull than an A20....

I went with a Telex 850 and don't recommend it. It's not quiet enough; this cockpit it freaking loud for a jet. I have to wear earplugs underneath to make it tolerable.
The on-ear DC with active cancelling I've heard are good. I've also gotten good feedback on Clarity Aloft. |

Bose A20. Works great for me. The flight deck of the 145 is extremely loud.

I agree. For a 145, A20s are a bless

Approaching 14,000 hrs in the 145. I give Bose the credit for the hearing and sanity I still have. I've been using them since 2006.

It’s amazing how people wont buy their own headsets. It’s a small investment for long term hearing and comfort.

Thanks everyone. I’m an devout sunglass wearer with a narrow head so the A20 tend to not seal around my ears while wearing glasses. Without glasses on I love the 20’s (atleast in the t props I’m flying now). Thinking an in ear headset would be a good option ie ProFlight. Haven’t heard many positives towards the pro’s but noise canceling is important to me. Not ruling out the CA’s though but any advice is appreciated. Only want to make the investment once. TIA

I've been wearing glasses with my A20 and with the X before them. I dont have any problems but I choose temples that are relatively flat and flexible so they won't interfere. My hearing is more important to me than being fashionable. I tried in-ear types and they irritated my ears (I'm older and have hair in my ears). My two cents though and to each their own![emoji6]

I was worried about the seal in over the ear NC headphones like the A20 or using a nflightmic with my QC35s. Don't forget you can just "flip" your glasses frame earpiece up. It tilts the sunglasses/normal glasses, just looks a little funny.

I wear proflights and love them. But I have ran into a decent amount of people that don’t find them comfortable

Look at different sun glasses. I would put good sun glasses up there with a good headset in importance.

If outside warranty you may need to send in a deposit to cover the possible cost. I can't remember the amount the last time I did this. Maybe $200? But I got back a fully refurbished headset. |

Anyone use/suggest the LS Zulu 3s? I have bigger head I feel like and even the dc get tight after a while. So from what I’ve heard the cost/practicallity of A20s wouldn’t work for me

So my Lightspeed Sierras are no bueno? Can I just pack some DCs and wear the LS? I really do not want to wear my DCs full time or drop the $$ on a new headset. I new start 5/6...

Look around and see if you can find a used Telex 850. Not sure about the -175 but fine in a jet with tail mounted engines such as the -145. Usually used they are in the $300 range.

I tried 850's. They didn't give me near enough noise reduction and my voice sounded weird in the sidetone. I've tried many different headsets over the years. The 145 is very loud in the cockpit at cruise. I decided a long time ago that I want to be able to hear my future grandkids talk and laugh so I bit the bullet and got ANR, then Bose since 2006. I don't regret spending the money. Once you lose your hearing, it doesn't come back.

Wouldn’t trade my David Clark Pro-X for the world. I had an A20 before this one and although the ANR is about the same in both, the DC is $300 cheaper and in my opinion more comfortable.

So you didn’t notice a reduction in ANR performance with the DC being just on the ear? I’ve been contemplating the Pro X. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have over 15000 hrs in the 145 and used David Clarks the whole time. My hearing is still great.

After many years of flying I started to notice hearing loss. That was before flying the 145 for over 13,000 hours. Thank God for ear plugs and ANR! I used earplugs for years before getting my first ANR 12 years ago. My ears wouldn't have done nearly as well without them. |

Best decision I have ever made, regarding headsets. Absolutely love them. |
Can anyone attest to the DC One-X over the Bose A20s? DC are what I’ve used in military flying but from my research, both headsets are quite similar aside from cheaper price for DC. 145 is too loud! Thanks for any info!

I LOVE my One-X. Think it's way more comfortable than the A20, and the noise cancelation is just is good. $200 cheaper than the Bluetooth version, too.
Thank you! Have you ever had any problems with the DCs or dealt with their customer service about it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
