Default Prep for training?

I have a hire date for later this month and I was wondering if there was something I can or should do to prepare. I haven't been flying much lately because of a job change. Getting some sim time to review instrument approaches is something I intend to do, but I'd like to know if there is anything else that would help.

Thanks

Sheppard Air is about all you can really prep for if you haven’t gone to ATP/CTP course yet. Once you show up on property for new hire class they’ll tell you all you need to study.

Read the book they gave you, actually read it and try to understand everything. That's about it.

Paying for sim time to work on instrument flying and approaches is a waste of money in my opinion, unless it is an EMB-145 sim.

You will get a surface first week . You will find limitations and flows there as well as everything you need for your training. You will also get a book (it’s actually a binder) as soon you are done with basic indoc.

They will also tell you multiple times don’t study ahead, only study whatever they tell you to study. Just listen to them, the training here is good and they will guide you on what you must know, versus what’s good to know.

Does it ever make sense to get the ATP written out of the way on your own before starting indoc and other initial training?

Unless you are willing to come out of pocket the 5k to take the atp/ctp course that is a requirement to take the written then no it doesn't.

You have to take a course to be able to take the written now? In the past, you just paid the fee to take the test, and it was good for like 24 months after. (Frozen if you worked for a 121 carrier, but that was when you could be a FO without an ATP)

After the Colgan crash it’s a requirement that we take the course, as it discusses high altitude aerodynamics and so forth. The course in no way shape or form preps you for the written it’s just ‘bundled together.’ I would get Shepard air and study two weeks before.
