Default Cleveland Domicile Closing

Well it appears CLE no longer supports United’s route structure and will be downsizing and closing CLE for ExpressJet as United plans to expand ExpressJet westward.

“Over the past months United has been analyzing and revamping their East Coast flying.”

“With the shift to more westerly flying at ExpressJet, United has made the decision to cease our Cleveland operation.”

“Outside of an unexpected major industry shift, we have been informed to expect the Cleveland crew base to cease to exist by the year end, most likely sooner, in the early fall.”

Would that have a big impact on company operations? Would this affect us as pilots ? Especially new hires ?

Maybe more flying from ORD means West? But rumor has it. DEN. Again just rumor. But facts, Houston is growing! Already have extra lines for February, and increasing even more closer to Summer.

Maybe DEN 145 base with GoJet closing there but who knows. ORD saw an increase in lines this month with a new 175 base opening and IAH will continue to grow on the 145 side as much as it can handle. United’s trend seems to be expanding XJT into its larger hub cities in the midwest. Company wants 840 new hires in 2020. That’s pretty ambitious.

Interested to hear thoughts/opinions on “more flying in the South”. What do y’all think our footprint will become there?
