How long is reserve? 6 month- 1 year.. But a lot of junior FOs leave so could be longer
Would you recommend going there?
if you need TPIC- no
If you have TPIC and want to live in base...then maybe
This is spot on.

Take note of "a lot of junior FO's leave"

Hint hint hint…

But honestly, If you don't need TPIC and don't mind a longer than normal wait to get off Reserve, then XJT is a wonderful place to be.

If however you're like the majority of the regional trash and are just starting your airline career, avoid XJT like the plague.

I would have a hard time getting out of bed and finding the motivation to go into work if I were an ExpressJet recruiter... They have absolutely nothing to offer a pilot recruit.

gee it seems like the OP was asking about L-XJT which has a high turn over rate TO THE MAJORS, upgrade time will come down if there are more bodies through the door. I dont know what we are doing right but a lot of captains (and FOs) went to major and LCCs (see attrition data). ERJs slow/stop leaving xjt starting in october, and other airlines can't staff their new flying (see Mesa and RAH). DO THE MATH kewosabe. We are better staffed than any other airline, we have the best performance than any other airline, we have more CCF, D0, and STAR flights than any other airline and we operate more flights than any other airline. You telling people to stay away and go to carrier with worse contracts and lower pay is only hurting your case to move up. To the OP: send an email to expressjet recruiting. Forums like these are only a vat of complaints and wobbly truth at best. Ill be happy to talk with you if you want to PM me.

Since you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about ExpressJet I was just wondering how much flight time people average while on reserve?

I'm military and possible getting out in a year with around 2000 hours. I live in Atlanta, so I was hoping to go into ExpressJet, build up some more flight time and get into a major airline in a year or two. I can live there very cheap which will help with the regionals.

Also does living in Atlanta help with ExpressJet?

Thanks

If you apply, they will call you. I am not sure about reserve flying. It has been almost 5 years since I was on it.

Bid 6AM reserve and select the call me first option. You will fly a ton.

Just FYI, that is pretty much everyone's plan. Some just execute/get luckier than others. But don't you worry about the flight time, you'll have plenty crammed down your throat before you know it! Then you'll become like every other rational airline pilot, study up on the contract and learn how to fly as little as possible while getting paid as much as possible.

Fun fact: I'm not sure about other places, but XJT has a "call me first"/Will Fly option for reserves that want to fly. Means what it sounds like: "Will Flies" get called first before other reserves with the same days of availability and phone liability time. From my experience, it didn't seem to matter if I selected the Will Fly option or not. Seemed like staffing was either fat or thin but never just right. If it's fat, expect to fly 40-65 hours. If it's thin, expect to fly 90-95.

Ha I stopped doing will-fly when they kept pulling me for ready reserve first and they would give me the 1st trips that came up, which were usually the worst ones. Deadhead to somewhere to repo a plane down for MX = deadhead and sit for 4 hours then fly 45 minutes back to a hub.
