With all of those aircraft being parked the Seniority list quickly went from nearly 3,000 pilots down to 1,800 in just a few years. Just thought I'd contribute to the question about "Any Regional ever parked half the fleet and survived?"

Minor corrections; the Colgan Beech 1900's were already long gone by the beginning of the merger, but the 16 Pinnacle CRJ900's were parked early on in the merger.
I believe the 900's went to ASA, and I know several of the CRJ-200's ended up at SkyWest. The Q400's tried to go to Republic but couldn't be staffed and some are still sitting unused in YYZ. Some of the Saabs ended up at Silver, some are sitting in BGR.
Last I saw Endeavor is about 1600 pilots now. The pilots have paid a very heavy price for the recent pay gains.

Much of the above is factually wrong. For example, ALL of the Q400's went to Republic and flew for over 4 years. The biggest problem with them was they were maintenance hogs (partly due to the lack of maintenance they received at Colgan). Most were sold to Flyb prior to the Republic bankruptcy and the remaining 4(?) disposed of (shed) in bankruptcy.

There are also several other errors above. If you're going to correct someone, get your facts straight.

Or do you prefer "alternate facts"?!

Thus endeth today's internet scolding/spanking!

Have a lovely day!

So you're telling me that all of those planes did in fact leave the fleet at some point and the pilot group did dissolve quickly from 3,000 to 1,800 (at some point)?

I was Pinnacle not Mesaba (Avroman). Colgan was purchased before Mesaba came into the mix, so yes I was around for the B1900's leaving. I said nothing about the merger in my timeframe (OP), because everything was in flux for years with the purchase of 2 Airlines (Colgan & Mesaba). I don't GAF where the planes went to. They left the fleet that's all that matters. Throw in the additional 16 CRJ 900's lost that Pinnacle purchased for Delta flying in ATL.

I was a part of that Pilot group as well, so I'm certainly familiar with the prices that were paid. Wish you guys the best!

Btw, none of you have the fleet details correctly but that's moot. Have a good day haha

Right we don't want the facts to ruin a good story.

FlyingOkra 02-03-2017 07:09 AM

Back on thread topic.

I was merely illustrating for these guys that an Airline can survive/prosper after parking a significant portion of its fleet and losing a large number of pilots. Endeavor (Pinnacle/Colgan/Mesaba) is an excellent example.

Nope, not Delta TalkTurkey.

AboveMins 02-03-2017 07:20 AM

But can they survive with a parent company who wants to shrink them to nothing?

HighFlight 02-03-2017 11:23 AM

In a word... No. JS has deemed it to be so, and so it shall be.

Good point.

I forgot about that.

I hope it goes well.

Update!

I'm going to retract what I said about us going out of business. Had a very informative conversation with an individual, who happens to be a neighbor of mine, and is currently on the management side of Delta. This person actually was involved in the discussion of getting ASA side back only. The deal was supposed to be announced a few years back but Skywest wanted to sell the whole package of Expressjet for $.75 on the dollar. Delta only wanted to pay $.50 on the dollar for the ASA side ONLY. He said yes it is a shifting game at this time but Delta is going to wait it out until skywest caves on the .50 on the Dollar, but they're not gonna let ASA go anywhere. Delta wants us for we are a cash cow. Something will come out of it in due time with no time set though but we will not go out of business his words. And to this day they are still negotiating the buyback but skywest is just playing hardball. He's thinking two or three more years it should be resolved and reemphasized we will not go out of business. For those still stuck at ASA your job is safe for those who want to stay your job is safe.

So XJT will become another WO? What about any type flow or preferential interview?

Skywest bought both ASA and XJT to get rid of the competition. They will NOT sell.

Not likely. That's all I will say about the matter. In fact, your neighbor is playing House of Cards. I would have said exactly the same thing knowing it would be spread like a wildfire in order to curb attrition. But I am a realist (pessimist) so there's that.

Endeavjet

Starting February 20 9E DTW Maint is picking up ALL EV maintenance in Detroit in addition to their own.. Mainline summoned execs from the C Tower to ATL to inform them they are pulling the EV maint from OO and giving it to 9E.. just my thought but my prediction is DL pulling EV from OO and giving the aircraft to 9E.. think about that while you watch Lady Gaga at halftime tomorrow

TalkTurkey 02-04-2017 11:37 AM

Arliss 02-04-2017 12:13 PM

I heard the same story about United wanting to buy back the L-Xjet side. Doubt either is real.

N1234 02-04-2017 12:25 PM

Nobody at UA or DL wants to buy a regional if they can help it.

They may invest to keep some alternative options (commutair anyone?). But buying a regional is contraproductive to the business model.

Read the UA flight attendant contract. Not possible for UA to own majority in any regional. Just more rumors to keep the sheepel in line.

AboveMins 02-04-2017 01:58 PM

According to my sources within the union, and management, your claim is false. Neither ASA nor L-XJT side has been approached in any manner regarding buyout by a major.

Yes, I'm SURE someone under confidentiality agreement (and anyone with knowledge of talks this high up would be) would divulge this info to you casually. Not to mention possible SEC violations. Yeah, I'm sure.

Troll level 1, drooling elementary school playground bully.

Best wishes to all at ASA. I have many friends there, both current and escaped, and you're a great pilot group. You deserve better. I hope you all make it out soon. Everyone I know who has left that place has found a better job, with more money and better life satisfaction. Don't wait until it's too late.

So Delta wants ASA for $.50 on the dollar, then if you know anything about Skywest management you know they will only sell for $1.25 and the good pilot group at ASA will shrink to nothing.

Neither their scope section nor their scope LOA has that restriction.

Its not going to happen. They require their own fa's to operate all UA flying by any companies or alter ego companies that UA has controlling interest in. It's in the LOA on page 367.

If ASA is such a cash cow why wont Delta buy them for more than 50% value? Seems a bit odd dont you think?

Not the point I was trying to make. ASA is definitely not a cash cow since Skywest bought the airline and destroyed it.

I'm not saying it's going to happen. Im saying that nothing in that loa prevents UAL from buying a regional.

amcnd 02-05-2017 06:53 AM

Why wouldn't Delta just buy more planes for Endeavor.. as XJT contract expires... when is it up anyway? 5 years.. and why would SkyWest sell them back at 1/2 what they bought them for? How much has xjt made for them... ???

This thread is about ASA. Atlantic Southeast Airlines made money when George and John owned it. ASA made money when Delta owned it. This airline made money when Skywest owned it. Then Skywest decided to buy Expressjet and lumped ASA in with them and now we lose money. That being said Skywest isnt selling us. I think even if we shrink we are market share that Skywest wont just sell to somebody when there is only so much scoped out RJ flying to go around.

WesternSkies 02-05-2017 07:38 AM

Oddly people didn't see the hardships ahead when managements used words like "regional consolidation".

amcnd 02-05-2017 08:30 AM

I think your right.. once they turn a profit for a few years on the XJT side i see them growing again.. but that will be 5+ years down the road... so for a jr FO i would bail to somewhere else..

gojo 02-05-2017 10:31 AM

[QUOTE=gojo;2295431]You just never know what kind of agreements are in place already? For example, some kind of agreement may have been made for the Delta 175's for some kind of a deal regarding ASA. I'm not saying there is such a deal, but I don't think one can adamantly say Skywest won't sell. I was at Mesaba when all the rumors started flying around about Pinnacle buying Mesaba. We all thought they were friken goofy. Well you know how that turned out.

What caused ASA to lose money was the second lowest rate reset five years after Skywest bought ASA. Skywest negotiate/agreed to that.

So which is it, I hear both sides of that story. Some say the rate reset was an increase, some say it wasn't? Also, was it for Skywest too?
