I'll play devil's advocate (or anti-chicken little) and throw this out for discussion.
1. It's a Hyatt Regency. My experience with those has generally been positive (TPE, ICN).

2. It's close to the airport. Considering the pain I've felt at 0800 fighting rush hour traffic for 1.5 hours to get downtown after hub turning through PVG, I think that might be a positive.

I think I'll leave the jury out in my little corner of the Fedex world until I've at least spent a layover there. My .02.

The Hyatt Regency in KIX is a nice hotel. Usually a 40-45 minute ride to the hotel. There aren't a bunch of restaurant choices immediately near the hotel. Lots of food court type places in the mall across the street and a few decent sit-down places too. There are a couple of decent restaurants in the lower level of the hotel as well. If you want selection, you'll need to ride the train downtown.

The bar on the top floor of the hotel is really nice- great atmosphere and fantastic view. Surprisingly, the food at the restaurant on the main level (they have a dinner buffet) is really good too. Great dumpling place hidden behind a secret door just down the sidewalk outside too. I enjoy the KIX layovers when I'm there (I'm a Brown guy).

Been to this hotel twice. Bar upstairs very expensive; priced for businessmen on expense accounts. Two restaurants in hotel limit choices if food and are only open during very limited hours. Same for few places in largely vacant mall.

Terrible location!!

Let's get to the important things...

1. Free breakfast?

2. Wifi speed?

3. Nearest Irish pub?

4. Gym?

5. Detailed directions to Toast Lady?

CBA says food needs to be available 24/7.

Everything around there closes between 2100-2200L. Last bus back from downtown runs at 2200 (BTW, they fill it up often and there's no standing). Room service stops at 2300 and the only thing available at the hotel from then to morning is from vending machines.

They do have a 24 hr crew menu for room service. Ask the front desk for a copy.

And to top things off.... The Hilton in PVG is being sold to a Chinese group as of JAN 18. Wonder which motel 6 out by the airport we will be shuttled off too?
