Default Indy 767 transition plans

Anyone hear what the plan is for Indy transition from classic to LDS 76s? It would seem they have to excess (or it's new contract equivalent) and open an Indy 76 base with the LDS equipment. Since each crew position is geographic AND equipment specific Indy classic 76 and Indy LDS 76 are two different crew positions.

I doubt The Company will parse the semantics that way. I would anticipate their use of the word qualification versus position.

With that logic though the new Boeing to Boeing transition is just a qual. So could people move from the 75/76 to the 777 without a bid?

Aren't the IND guys currently flying their classics and the same 757 aircraft the MEM LDS pilots fly? (at least in terms of quals - not sure how often they see 757s)

My understanding was that the FAA decided MEM or IND guys could fly 2 of the 3 but not all three. It seems like having that 757 in common between the two bases would make the switch a bit less complex than you're suggesting. Differences training from classic to LDS and press on. Type rating is still the same regardless and has been handled this way since the 1980s.

As far as your 777 theory: Having to get a new type rating kind of blows that out of the water, I would think.

When MEM transitioned from Classic to LDS there was no manning base swap out. Plan on them transitioning (Difference Training) all of the pilots over a 3 month window. Once you take the difference course you will no longer be qualified in the classic and your next rip will be the two SLF legs. There will be some confusion as scheduling figure out that no they can't draft you for that trip. At least that how it will work out if they do it like they did before.

From Section 2:

31 . CREW POSITION

A specific crew seat, in a specific aircraft type, at a specific domicile (e.g., Captain MD-11MEM; First Officer A-300 MEM).

You're talking about different qualifications on a single type. The big screens don't constitute a different type.

My understanding is that it will be just like when MEM transitioned from Classic to LDS. There will be a SBA (not SIBA) bid for those that will continue to fly the Classic until they're gone. Others will go through differences training and checked out on the LDS.

I don't believe when Indy opened it said IND- 767 Classic. It's a 767 that happens to be classic configuration.

For IND, per the Posting, 14-03, which opened the domicile, they referred to them as B767 EFIS/IECAS (.i.e. Classic).

Expect an increase in 757 flying. Easiest, least expensive way to do it until the rotation of LDS jets make it to IND. FWIW>
