It’s the most diverse flying in the fleet. Decreasing international but still a fair amount (especially charters). Domestic flying is far from all hub turns... there are a number of week long trips that may only see Memphis once.

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but many posts back mention that some/quite a bit of 75 flying goes through EWR. Is it feasible/realistic that someone could do out and back or 3-4 day trips from there or do all roads lead to MEM? I realize it's not a base but it seems like schedules at Big Purple frequently start away from a base anyway. (I live 20 min from Newark so that would work out really well for me.)

Similarly, is it reasonable/feasible to have very early morning shows 0400-ish vs overnight flying. I'm on the late night sim schedule at the moment and while I can handle it physiologically, it's been weird for my gf. She's an early riser so our schedules have been exactly 180 out. So, while FedEx is somewhere I really want to be at it's making me wonder if it's really a good match.

While I can’t speak for the 75, in the MD for example flying exclusively to Newark is certainly possible. It would look something like: Deadhead to newark on Sunday (you can opt of out that), then every night of the week fly EWR-IND-EWR till Friday when you finish up.

As far as your second question. 4 am showtimes from the hub are a bit more rare. They exist on some senior international trips but most of our overnight trips (departing the hub) show between 0130-0300. That said, you can always fly days, or at least avoid the early showtimes from the hub based on what you bid to fly. It gets said a lot but is worth repeating, there’s something for everyone here.

Would you really make a career decision based on your GF?

In my best Allen Iverson voice:

"Girlfriend!! Are we really talking about girlfriend? I mean, really, girlfriend?"

Girlfriends come and go. Fedex job opportunity is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a fortunate few.

FedEx has the most flexibility of any carrier I have heard of. For the most part, work as much or as little as you want. I worked opposite schedules as my spouse for 21 years when the kids were at home, never needed a babysitter. The flexibility to drop or give away most trips (or pick up extra when you choose) is fantastic. If you can't make it work here, you can't make it work anywhere as a commercial pilot. If you have to touch base every single day with your gf/spouse, you're in the wrong industry.

I definitely don't know all the aircraft schedules but most of the EWR layovers are not every day. If you are flying in and out of EWR everyday, you're laying over at the other station.

True but to his questions, EWR is a very commuter friendly location. Probably the most Jumpseats to MEM everyday. This month my trips all start and end in EWR so he could be working 3 days instead of 5. There are a lot of pairings that start and end within easy drive/train range.
