The last time I had to beg a jumpseat from Delta (every single flight into the northeast cancelled for the rest of that day for weather, so I was desperate), the captain really didn't want to give me a ride, since he was getting an IOE. Fortunately there was one seat in the back, so he allowed me to sit there. I doubt anyone else could have made it there in time, and we probably would have left a million dollars of freight on the ramp if this jackass had said no. I'd rather buy a ticket or use airmiles if I have to.

Being a Captain is in essence an exercise in managing through operational distractions.
That being said, I have always been welcomed on the JS by DL Pilots as a FX pilot. Wasn’t really the case when I flew DCI, I would say it was about 80/20 back then.

I have a good friend who joined Purple last April. He is now 156 on the on upgrade bidding and in is awarded a bid line in the top 30% of his choices and seldom is on reserve. Things are moving fast at Purple.
One thing to remember FedEx does not furlough and that is a big relief if you are junior.

Republic 175 captain here:
I have jumped on Fed Ex a few times and it was great. I've also had you guys on my planes.
Always welcome. If I can do it, I make sure. I make the walk to the gate every flt to make sure I'm not leaving anyone behind.
I prefer getting people home. That makes me happier, knowing someone will get to see their family. I'll get them to work too, but home is always better.

Everyone has a bad day. They might be a total A-hole, but I assume I met them on their "bad day". It has been pretty bad a few times. I have just politely, and off to the side, asked them if they would let me on their jump seat if I acted like them. All but one apologized (I did't care if they did, I just wanted them to think out it for next time). One told me to me to F myself. I was taller than him so I figured it was a win for me either way. If I let him get me upset, then there are two ****ed off people from this ordeal. Don't let them "win". Even if your victory is something small, like height. (pun intended)

An honest question though, what happens if the Postal contract goes away at FedEx? Would there be a need to furlough?

Snapshot in time is important (IMO). Agree with 30+ airframes coming to UPS, now is a great time to get on. You will have hundreds below you in a short period of time, not even counting retirements, mandatory and early. Never say never, but, someone hired in 2018 at UPS has a VERY HIGH probability of never seeing a furlough, simply due to timing (growth).
Simple reality is, at this point in time, you can’t go wrong with either. A year, two, three from now, one may be “better”, but today, both great options.
For example, Delta has hired 4000+ people the last few years, whereas AA is just getting started. Not factoring in culture, job, etc, AA IMO is a far better option TODAY than Delta, seniority wise. UAL somewhere in the middle. Another example, SWA has been hiring 600-800 for years, that ship has also sailed (again purely fast seniority movement, no judgement on the job, wonderful one).
Fedex just had a Nov 2016 75 upgrade, fantastic. UPS upgrade is hovering late 2005/2006. But remember, there was no hiring from 2007 until 2014, so I suspect upgrade will jump to 2014 very soon. For that Fedex Nov 2016 upgrade, he/she will be on reserve a long time. If you live in base, who cares. Just like the super junior Delta ATL/NYC 88 upgrades.
At this point in time, you cannot go wrong with either. Company cultures very different, no doubt. But if you just want to go to work, turn left, fly your trips, be happy, both will provide you with this.
Brown or Purple, both financially solid companies.
