When it means I have to wake up and show earlier, and then drag my bags through the terminal at Detroit Wayne County (my most recent itineraries have been MEM-DTW-IND) when I would have otherwise been enjoying lunch or a nap in Indy, I don't buy the time argument.

But you're correct that we don't get paid more for the increased duty time or for the decreased rest time. The TAFB pay makes the extra leg in a Barbie jet worth every second. Yay team!

Life was good when I was first hired at FedEx. If you couldn't jumpseat on FedEx, there were plenty of seats available on NWA.


For new hires, this is significant and is another thing to be aware of.



FedEx has very limited jumpseats on the weekends thru Monday. Guess when the junior trips start or end?
I think a lot of newhires, especially RJ guys live in or near a larger hub city (based there innthe RJ days) with a least FDX service to Memphis and maybe 1-3 flights a day. Just a WAG. I’ve found commuting here to be quite painless, whether on FDX or on a DH. I can’t imagine how nice it was when NWA was in town. But it’s still pretty good today, no? FDX inbound/outbound, DH’s... it sure is a lot easier than commuting at a passenger carrier. I’ve had one trip that started on a day when the FDX service wouldn’t have helped me commute— I just swapped it to a different day that month. Voila!

The worst part of the IND-CLT-MEM DH is doing it after an operational leg. Who do I thank for that, ALPA, FEDEX or DAL?
