Default Post office box

Is there a reason FedEx does not deliver to post office boxes, but requires a street address?

I live in a small town where about 75% of the residents have a post office box. Some live here full time. Many winter someplace south. Many more are gone travelling. The ladies at my post office know me by my box number! They have no idea vagabond is my name!

I travel a lot and gone a long time. Although it's safe, I really don't want my purchases sitting by the front door tempting even the most honest of us.

Pretty sure UPS is the same.

But if there’s a FedEx Office fairly close you can have packages delivered there.

Also think that’s an option at some Walgreen’s pharmacies.

Maybe it’s because the USPS and FedEx are technically competitors, and the former won’t help deliver the latter’s parcels without postage stamps.

The town I live in has no FedEx Office, no drop off location, no Walgreens, no Safeway, no Sonic drive in, no Burger King, no Walmart.

It doesn't even have traffic lights.

I would imagine that USPS won't allow FedEx or UPS to deliver to the post office boxes because that is specifically for the post office. Why would they want to do all the work it requires to manage delivery if these companies were delivering to PO boxes for free? Unless they had some sort of agreement where they were getting $$ from these companies, it doesn't make sense that they would allow it.

Our son doesn't want things delivered to his apartment often, and FedEx will allow him to choose from many different pickup points. If you have a local store of some sort, it is possible that they hold packages from FedEx or UPS for you. But even those stores probably won't hold them for more than a week or so if you don't pick them up. Think I would just manage my deliveries so they don't get delivered while I'm on vacation, or have a friend periodically go by.

is there a neighbor that is there year round that can help out?

My Post Office will accept packages from FedEx and UPS and hold them for you. I just have them shipped to the P.O.s physical address and put my P.O. Box as a suite number easy peasy.

BTW feel your pain I live in a historic district with no mail boxes but my company will absolutely not send my Company correspondence to a P.O. Box so I had to get special permission to have a mail box so I could get my company info.

Mine does the same. As a box holder, I got a letter long ago explaining how articles should be addressed to be delivered and held there. I’m not sure if all post offfice locations do this though.

Thank you all for your responses and suggestions. I think the best thing to do is kick the buying habit. Unfortunately, when it comes to things I like, I have more money than sense!

I'll also contact my post office about putting their physical address on packages.

Somebody please block ebay or Amazon for me! Let me drive the one hour to get to Walmart!
