So why would a guy fly at straight time when AVA is available? Footprint!!!!
If you had 19 days of reserve you drop or were dropped for you because of declining China trips you have a footprint. I don’t think a guy with a blank schedule and possibly no paycheck is going to avoid picking a trip up at straight time so another guy who could drop in the hole or already has a full schedule can get AVA.
Here comes somebody that will say don’t drop your reserve. Well if we all didn’t drop reserve we’d be fat on reserve and your AVA request would get denied for sufficient reserves. It’s a system..lots of interrelated factors. Nothing is as simple as saying guys just need to do AVA.
AVA is great when you can get it but it’s not guaranteed you will. It’s just another carrot to ensure trips get filled.

And the greed and lack of unity continues. If everyone stopped any extra flying, we'd have the companies attention. But don't worry, its prudent to take care of your family and not screw your buds. Its ok to be furloughed, hold a seniority number, fake resign and then leave when times get better.

I see your point and this is why the OIM is good. Without the OIM you couldn't opt out of China and then pick up flying other than China. With out it you would have to call in sick therefor having a sick footprint not allowing you to fly at all. I think what most are trying to get our group to understand is those who pick up straight pay trips above and beyond their normal schedule is not helping.

A few practical ways to care for our fellow pilots.
Water bottles in the sink please.
Spit on your own headset mic.
Try to keep the same sleeproom if possible.
i have occasionally asked jumpseaters to not flush the toilet but rather to chase it with a quarter bottle of water. Almost zero compliance. But the smell is not worth ruining a friendship over.
