There is no path to FedEx until next year. Theres a pool and then Legacy recs... Going to be a long time for any furloughed mainline guys coming to FedEx. Mainline guys came to FedEx and left. You think they would get any hiring preference? Regional guys will do better.

Application lines were long enough waiting to get into FedEx/UPS and the Big 3 and 4th if you will. Now those lines from the last 4 Mentioned and any other pax gig all lead to FedEx/UPS and other cargo outfits. This hour glass has a very long and much thinner stem now. Definitely need to differentiate yourself somehow someway to get noticed on a path to FedEx. Guard and Reserve has always been good advice, although those ready to apply from the mil side including active duty probably have redirected their efforts towards the Cargo side if they hadn’t before. Only so many seats at the table. Using the AMCI steppingstones was a very good path, but those lines have increased as well. From feast to famine definitely will delay anyone on the path regardless of aptitude, qualifications, etc., but patience and perseverance will prevail hopefully. Keep at it, never give up! If you have your ducks in a line, it’s all timing and luck never hurts either. On that note Good Luck to all.

Look really hard at Air National Guard. This whole airline thing will be shaky for a few years. ANG allows more options now and in the future.
The regional airlines will be shuffling around so much I think that might be a hard bet to make. With ANG, if you get stuck not going to an airline, you can spin off into another career easily using military experience...

as a long time lurker, I second this. His response on “what do you like most about FedEx” was comedy gold and made me want to come here even more.
Back to the original topic, I really can’t say enough good things about the Guard if it’s an option. If hiring on the civilian side stagnates even more and you get “stuck” having to do it full time for a while, it’s really a great gig, either for a lifetime career or a stepping stone. The peace of mind that you have some supplemental income in the event of a furlough or 4a2c is priceless.
