Default FedEx Vs Delta

Hey all, I’ve read all the FedEx v Pax/Delta forums. I’m just hoping for some recent Delta pilots who have made the switch to FedEx.

I’ve done the numbers fairly conservative for both Delta and FedEx and financial I don’t see a huge difference between either airline. Yea FedEx wins the retirement and compensation but either airline would provide a comfortable life and retirement.

I’ve been at Delta just over 6 month, before Delta I only flew cargo mostly on Heavies. I don’t know
much about schedule flex at either place. My goal is to be able to work 12 days or less while getting full guarantee or more for the month. Would also like the possible to drop down to zero some
months if I want (when the dust settles on this hiring surge)

Based on my forecast I’d retire around 11% seniority at Delta and 6%-8% at FedEx.

Any info is much appreciated.

People always focus on what seniority they’ll retire at.

I’m more concerned on what seniority I’ll be the last 10-12 years of my career.

A big hiring spree right before you’re hired at an airline, could result in topping out at +/-25% for the majority of your 50s, only to shoot up to 5% the last 1.5years of your career

I’d be around 41% at FedEx and 49% at Delta fairly close.

im not overly concerned about seniority. Since it’s the same progression for the most part. I’m more concerned which place would give me better QOL and time off. I do enjoy Wide body flying more and flying cargo but I’m not bothered by the Pax flying. I’d probably never hold wide body (330/350) captain at Delta so I’d miss out on that pay scale.

Where do you live?

If you’re commuting anyways then it’s FedEx hands down. If you live in Queens then stay at Delta.

Nothings preventing me from moving wife doesn’t mind living in a Delta base. But we probably won’t be moving anytime soon. So it’s commuting either way.

Are you willing to work long trips? FedEx has the option to bid trips that are between 10-13 days long on average that will pay you between 70-85 hours at widebody pay and leave you with the rest of the month off.

we also have the option to work shorter trips if being away from home that long isn’t an option.

It seems that every new hire class that we have has pilots coming from the big 3. Our fastread emails we get from the union have the background of the pilots in the class. I always see Delta pilots coming here. I dont think many from here go there FWIW.

I left Delta after 6 months. Still in training at FedEx so I can’t answer any of your questions about what the jobs like. Just wanted to chime in that there are TONs of us from Delta. At least 5 in my new hire class I would say. I have zero regrets so far!

Thanks for the input. Do you commute, live in base? Was FedEx just a better fit?
