it is almost unconscionable that the folks who built this company who have retired since amenable date thru 29 May will be refused this compensation!

No, it's naive to believe you can't. It's defeatist and naive to believe that you have to accept whatever scraps they throw your way. If you don't value your contribution to the company, why should they?
