A seniority based system for open time is used by other carriers.
A seniority based system would not fix the amount of time it takes for open time requests to process. In order for it to be truly seniority based, there would have to be a window for submissions for the trips. In my opinion, if we went to a real time trip trading system, there would have to be a phase in period of at least a year or two so that the pilots who have dropped trips and have a make-up bank have the oportunity to get those hours back. That would mean that in order to increase the value of your line, you must have hours in your make-up bank. Maybe this is something for the next round of negotiations, but if you read the LEC 26 update, we are still on the focused track. |

Senior guys have had their chance at the best lines, bid LCA's, the best training slots, the best vacations, the best view add. They have had their chance to make their best schedules. Open time should NOT be seniority based, the way it works is just fine, if you want to put in the work to better your schedule. We already have industry bottom reserve rules that the junior guys like me have to live with and the senior guys never wanted to fix.
With that said, real time trip trading would be great. We need that. But the same players would still get the trips because at the end of the day, they are still faster and on open time 24/7. Now extensions are a different story. |

You do realize that you work in an industry that is seniority based, don't you. All of those senior pilots that you are complaining about had to endure the same things that you are eduring.
Senior guys are always looking for ways to make this job even worse, as long as it benefits them now that they’re senior. |

I understand the point you’re trying to make. But I’ve been here seven years and I have never received a trip on the day of open time release. Never had that problem before FedEx with seniority based OT. I’ve submitted using the atomic clock in the background and still get beat on the time stamp. 100% of the time.

Do you not realize we’re about to experience that with DRIVE and Tricolor?
There is a subset of pilots with seniority #s around 600,000 to 1,000,000 who have had it far worse. Not your fault, but stop acting/complaining like this is a first for the seniority list. It’s not the senior pilots fault either. The current situation can be avoided/reduced with a better contract with a retirement boost. (That is beneficial to junior pilots as well). Crazy contract demands will only make the pain last longer. Stop complaining and start working together for a better future. It’s not the senior pilots fault, it’s the executives/managements fault. |

The real wolf pack might be junior to a crotchety ole gal like you, but given the fact that their average seniority is above 50% you can't really call them junior.

I've done the same and gotten beaten every time. Atomic clock, .5 seconds prior hit submit, and still get time stamped. I don't know if someone has a program that can beat it or maybe being in Memphis closer to the servers? Either way I don't even bother with open time release anymore. Not worth the hassle.
I think the only thing needing to be fixed is getting rid of CRS collusion and adding real time trip trading. Problem is, the guys hawking open time would still grab the great trips, but now you wouldn't even know they hit open time. No more PNP would be great. |
