I’m more hopeful than you are. How is the company going to sit across from the mediator and justify the low ball offers?

Right now, they could say what they always said to us , pre 9/11 (to our union, not mediators since I believe this is the first time we’ve gone this route) which is:
we’re in a different segment of the industry. You can’t compare us to United. We’re cargo. Compare us to UPS. You want United rates, go to United.

That was the company’s line every negotiation we went through, pre 9/11

But if UPS inks a deal that matches the big 3, the company can’t use that excuse anymore.

I’m imagining they will pivot to something along the lines of “our business model has changed after DRIVE and the airline division is more like Atlas and Kalitta now”

Hearing some hopefully good rumors from Brown. Let’s hope they lob a big one, would love to see JD and his goons try to lie their way out of it, just like they did at At-less.

Company has always tried different excuses. Nothing new. When we were making less they said our business model was different should not get paid same as pax pilots. When we were making more they said a pilot is a pilot why should we make more.

If you are relying on UPS, think again.

I hope the best for UPS. However, I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how pathetic it is to hear FedEx pilots hoping that UPS can make the big move, so we can maybe catch a line and get dragged up with them. Almost as pathetic as winding up at the top of the industry after 9/11 and bragging to your pax friends how much you make.

Well said!! I couldn’t have said it better. That mentality is so mind boggling.

A plan justice

I noticed that a segment of guys imminently on their way out the door justify the A plan increase and TA1. They emphasize that it's a choice to opt out, everyone gets the A plan (except new hires), no one can take your pension but you need to freeze and opt out, the market base plan is a defined benefit plan so it's just as good, A plan is worth so much that we can justify lower hourly rates and QOL concessions, young guys and new hires should opt out and it's a great deal, but the old guys need it because they require a steady income during retirement.

do you think that’s because many of them may not have contributed much to their 401k outside of the B fund? I’m not being snarky.

Did they demand that they purchase more wide body aircraft and insource the code share flights?

That was half sarcasm that needs to be read in context to the comment I was replying to. The poster said, "we're not going to be successful if we start trying to insist that FedEx buys aircraft they don't need or fly half-full aircraft on non-profitable routes because we "deserve" to be moving that freight no matter what..."

I was just responding that management has already proven that the aircraft they "need" to be successful in operating profitable routes exist. His point is half true. This next TA needs to start reversing the ability for management to unilaterally outsource pilot jobs. I'm surprised, but shouldn't be by this point, that not more pilots are howling at the fact that our scope allows management to use ASL with absolutely no restrictions. Yes, I am a one issue voter. I'll read scope and if it's not a dramatic improvement, I'll stop. If its good, I'll continue reading and hope I don't find too many landmines to blow it up anyway.
