I guess the other question is why you think you need a job other than your DAL position.

I guess the last question is why are you resurrecting a post from 5 1/2 years ago...

This must be a record for longest time between posts.

I helped my friend get hired as professional sim instructor just a couple of weeks ago. We were both instrutors in the Navy a long time ago. His career was 20 years with DAL, achieving 757/67 Captain. He left Delta before they went into bankruptcy. He then spent the next few years playing Mr. mom.

Wanted to get back into the flying game and I was trying to get him hired to the line. During those days when Jack Lewis (x-Eastern) was chief pilot he would not entertain the idea of hiring Delta or American pilots, because we were burned real bad back in 1995. During that time frame, when A/A and DAL furloughed we hired a bunch of them and put them in the right seat of the Maddog. However as soon as the recall started nearly everone of them bolted back to the mother ship.

My friend finally got hired by Jade cargo as a RFO on a 747-400out of Schezen. Long commute. He just got hired a few weeks ago and will instruct on the MD-11. His contract is only 2 years, and I think is pay is around 80K. Don't quote my on that. Still better than shuffling boxex in the rain, but TMHO.

JJ14,
Did your buddy get a guarantee to the line? Are they doing that again or is it another interview down the road?
Thanks

The concept is that they hire a line pilot into the training center as a sim/classroom instructor. Then once every three months the pilot would "flex" back to the line, i.e., fly a normal line for a month. But it rarely happens. They hang out in their instructor jobs and rarely fly the line for anything more than an afternoon out and back.

Actually, 80-90% of Capt Instructors are DUAL QUAL'd as LCA Flex's. In the MD-11, and I think more than that in the 777. Not sure about the 757 or 727.

I think he'll have to interview.

Actually most of us stayed at FedEx. (At least the lucky ones!)

I am a line pilot at DAL, but it looks like I may need a new position in the near future.

I have one recommendation at FedEx, but apparently that isn't enough to get an interview. I have heard that this may be a reasonable way to get through the door.

Any information on salary, weblinks, contacts, etc. would be appreciated.

RM,

Here is the scoop. There are three positions as "Pro Instructors" at FedEx.

1. Systems Instructor (Classroom)
2. Procedures Instructor (FTD)
3. Maneuvers Instructor (Sim)

You would be interviewed based on your experience and qualifications.

Doesn't sound like you are interested in a "line position" If so, apply for the pilot job. If the window is closed, wait a weeks, it will open again. We occasionally put out postings for "Pro Instructors". The contract is for two years and the salary is based on which position you are placed.

Here was the posting from the latest FCIF

We are once again posting externally for Professional Instructors in the
Flight Training Department. Many of you have contacted us recently to
inquire on behalf of friends and colleagues, so this FCIF is published to
again ask for your help in publicizing these openings.

A bachelor's degree is still preferred, but there is also a
provision to give credit for degree equivalency based on previous
instructor experience in formal training programs approved under Part 61,
135, 141 and 142.

We have openings for three levels of instructors, including both full time
and part time positions:

- Ground School Instructor
- Procedures Instructor
- Maneuvers Instructor

Previous aircraft and instructor experience will determine the instructor
position offered. Prior air carrier experience is considered a plus. A
medical certificate is not required. A more complete list of requirements
is included in the online posting.

If you know qualified individuals interested in joining the FedEx team,
please provide the following information to them. Candidates may apply
for any or all positions. There are opportunities in each aircraft
training program. Applications must be made online and submitted by
midnight CST Friday, August 12, 2011.

Have your candidate copy and paste the following URL and complete the
