Anybody get a call this week? I know calls went out last week, perhaps they're doing bimonthly? Trying to get a gauge for interview round frequency...

What's your availability date?

Albief15 04-27-2016 08:53 PM

I am flying with one of those guys awarded 75 captain on the practice bid this month . In addition to being a very nice guy and a joy to fly with, he is also a former check airman, standards guy, and has type ratings on 777, 737, and 75/76. He flew at a previous airline for over 25 years until it went under. He would not only be a good 1 year captain, but a solid 2 year check airman.

Don't confuse seniority for talent or ability. I came to Fedex passing on an 8 month A320 captain upgrade at Jetblue, but another former F-15 contemporary went there (we both were given class dates at JB...he also had an interview pending at FedEx but never left) and upgraded at less than a year. He did just fine, despite no 121 experience.

FedEx hires captains. When you get to upgrade is dependent on a lot of variables, but everyone here should be capable. Nobody is here building flight time for their next job. If you are here, then you can upgrade.

Albie, or anyone else who might know,
Has anyone received an invite to interview without jet time?
Does someone with 10k+ in turbo-props (non military) have any chance of getting a call?
Thanks

Albie,

You know as well as anyone that that's just not true. Perhaps at one time, those few may have been able to upgrade, but over time, either their skills, or their determination, or both deteriorated to a point where some are just incapable of upgrading. And, there's nothing wrong with that, as long as they do their current job appropriately and professionally.

There are dozens (or more) of guys here with only turboprop time; some military, some civilian. I know several personally, from a previous life, who had no jet time and are here today. I don't know what that means for the current qualifications they are hiring right now, but I would say it's worth your time to apply.

Our previous CP was a Navy P-3 pilot.

Thanks for the response.

I know several people that were hired there with only turbo-prop time, but that was before they started letting the computer choose who gets called for an interview.

At a job fair a few years ago, I was told by HR that I needed jet time?

Thanks for the response.

I actually talked with him at the WAI job fair a few years ago, and he mentioned that. He said "turbo-prop time is fine with me, but I don't choose who gets a call, that's up to the computer."

I'm hoping that might change with all the hiring that's happening now. I've heard that the 1000 PIC requirement is gone, maybe the jet time requirement will change as well?

Thanks
