I had time for just one at Salaam Namaste, but the rest of the time was doing my ECIC homework and RST practice. I've got 3 videos left to watch before the seminar next week. Maybe next time if I'm in his part of town. I would imagine (hope!) the HKG FDA pilots don't live in Mong Kok, at least not near our hotel.

US Mail security Clearance
 
Hello I am currently flying PIC for a 129 Forgein Freight Carrier. I spend half of my time in the US and the rest outside flying. Would that restrict me from being able to apply to FEDEX due to the US Mail security Clearance?

Where did you reside? Straight from Pilot Credentials...

Candidates for jobs involving handling or access to U.S. mail cannot be considered for employment if they have resided outside the U.S., Guam or Puerto Rico for more than (6) six months during the last (5) years prior to today's date, other than the following verifiable exceptions: active duty in the U.S. Uniformed Service; trailing spouse or dependent of someone working for the U.S. government (military or civilian); missionary; student attending school in a foreign country; Peace Corps participant; employee of a U.S. based employer/company or other extraordinary circumstances.

It doesn't matter who you flew for, it matters where you hung your hat.

Friend married a Spanish man and he moved to the usa and within a few months, once he recieved his work authorization, got a job at the USPS. A few months later he received his green card. Wondering how this is different than what FedEx says?

Its the USPS contract that drives this requirement. They can do whatever they want at their company, but when they inked a 7 Billion dollar contract they got to make the requirements.

This has been the policy since 2002 when I was hired.

I don't mean to come off as harsh, but the perpetual cry-assing on this requirement makes me laugh. Many of the guys who have been working for a job at FedEx have had it on their list for years. I've worked with guys as far back as 2006 that just got hired in this latest cycle. Some of them passed on Emirates or other gigs strictly so they wouldn't frag themselves out a their goal of FedEx at some point. Like the ATP, 1000 TPIC (no longer a req), and a class 1 medical, the residency requirement has been part of the process here since the 2000 Postal Contract. I don't have a lot of sympathy for a guy who wakes up and says "hey..wow...FedEx has great benefits. I think I'll apply there....oh wait....they have a residency requirement..." Most people don't plop into FedEx, or come in the back door. They have been trying for years to get here, and have been systematic in their approach.

You can work for a US airline overseas, but you cannot work for a foreign company. Again--their rules, not mine.

Our classes are full of pilots from regionals, military, and other airlines. There is a pilot shortage. We don't have one yet. Go to Atlas, Kalitta, Spirit or Jetblue and get your 5 years in. I don't see that rule changing anytime soon, regardless of who the USPS has working in their own offices.

How's the view from your high horse there? Getting plenty of Kool-aid? I'm sure you're not thirsty.

That "rule" is no longer a USPS requirement, nor has it been for many years. FDX has held on to that for no apparent reason.

I hope your interview prep is better than your attitude displayed here.

Not trying to be high horse, just honest.

I could say "wow...its AWFUL they have this stupid rule. ...like they had back in 2000, or back in 2003, or back in 2004, or back in 2007, or back in 2011, or back in 2013...." etc.

Trust me when I say we have zero impact on the FedEx hiring mechanization. We cannot even recommend/walk in folks these days. There is even a rumor (and its just a rumor) that if a guy has too many recs they don't want him/her, as they are trying to deliberately dash any idea this is a "good old boy" club.

Meet the reqs, get the check airman qual (civ) or SEFE (mil) and you got a great chance of getting here. But you have to meet THEIR mins. And unfortunately, there isn't much any of us can do to impact that--at least for now.

And as for me being a dick--well--unintentional but it does happen. Not my intent. Just trying to throw out some tough love, because those of us with friends on deck are all very frustrated by the current process. Worried about living overseas? Hell...we cannot get our friends who were squadron commanders or regional LCA interviews....

Sure about that? I work for a foreign airline, but have a US domicile. Spoke with FedEx at two job fairs and both times was told it's not a problem.

Apples and Oranges, PC. The discussion revolves around residency. The fact you are domiciled "reside" in the states makes your situation completely separate from the conversation in place.
You can infer the completion of the sentence to read..."residing outside the US."
