Can one have a 22" roll aboard bag in one hand, and a regular sized 50 lb bag (checked bag for pax carrier) in the other hand and make one trip upstairs? As Fedex pilots, do you know if this is allowed? Looking at jumpseating Fedex but with an equivalent of a checked bag and a pilot carry on bag. Thoughts / policy?

Thanks!

I think you would be fine with that. I've seen many combinations and have never heard of any problems. I think that language is just there if someone brings 5 bags or some level of baggage that's clearly nuts. There is no weighing, no bag sizer, no measuring at all. If you can carry them, two bags is fine.

Thank you! And one more thing, what's the earliest I can call to list for a jumpseat? Only 24 hrs prior to sked dept time?

I've seen several people with bicycles ... nobody seemed to mind.

During one of my Reserve periods I went to a local MEM auto parts junkyard. When I jumpseated home, I had several big auto parts (fender and bumper) wrapped in bubble wrap. I found the Captain in Flight Ops prior to going to the airplane. His only concern seemed to be were we would store them. He was happy with my, "behind the cargo net?" answer.

It a little bit more trouble for the f/o to make sure that the extra luggage is secure. It it were me I would offer to help him with the luggage Rubik's cube.

The only time I've EVER heard of a problem I suspected it was because the guys had issues PRIOR to that flight.

Good luck, I don't think you'll have any problems (especially if you can carry it up the stairs is 1 trip).

And ... I'm not sure what any of this has to do with the "FedEx Hiring" thread topic?

Up to 3 weeks prior. However, if the flight fills up, you could get bumped, up to 24 hours prior.

Just a quick question that I probably know the answer to. I am a current regional guy with 7K total, 2K TPIC, (mostly RJ) and LCA. The drawback is that I do not have a degree. I am paying for my wife to go back to school for her Doctorate in Pharmacy so for me to get my degree just isn't feasible at the moment due to cost. Now to the question, how firm is FedEx on having the Four Year? I know I can't even fill out the app because I do not meet the mins so I'm pretty sure getting on there would be impossible for me. If there is another route to get on there I would love to at least try.

It's a requirement.

Not being able to fill out the job application seems like kind of a show-stopper, don't you think? ;) I think all "routes" to a job at FedEx probably involve an application, as a minimum.

No college, but it sounds like you married well. Stick with the sugar mama and fly for a hobby. :D

Fly21-

I understand that your wife's PharmD is at her expense vs grants. Your undergrad, however, is grant eligible as well as stafford loan. As far as I am concerned, you ARE able to do the cost especially since your wife will likely make 100k/yr when she finishes. I would imagine a recruiter would look at your situation and think you are using her as an excuse.

A degree does not make you a better pilot, but it is a minimum to get a job at an airline you obviously want to work at so suck it up and enroll.

Appreciate the firm advice guys, I have been looking into grants and loans for myself but wanted to get the question out there. Thank You

Oh, this must be a change? I thought it used to be once you got the JS reservation, you could not be bumped unless it was a Fdx checkairman. Guys used to describe it as a guaranteed seat once you reserved it even as a OAL pilot.

Sorry for the thread hijack, this is my last question about jumpseating. Just wanted to avoid starting a whole new thread.

If ya'll had a EWR base, I'd probably throw in an app :)

No change. the "guarantee" is inside of 24 hours. But there are many reasons to be bumped. Aircraft change, operational emergency, check airman, DOD courier etc.
