I don't think you read the article.

We'll have to use a code-generating app on a smart phone to log on.

So you'll need a) a smart phone, and b) cell service. I'm guessing.

They also said if you didn't want to use an app, you could request a physical token. Anyone have any idea how that would work?

I hate to think that if I were at an international location, I would have to connect my phone to wifi simply to be able to log in on my iPad to check my schedule.

I am confused. Does this mean you can't logon using your laptop?

I guess we would have to use the "physical token". Whatever that is.

Cyber security gone wild!

What's the risk?

What's the cost?

How many breaches of security have they had from pilot accounts?

Does this mean my buddies wife can't long on anymore and trip trade for him???

Sheesh!

Huck your right I didn't read the whole article... I read the title and skimmed the rest now I'm scratching my head at this "token"

Same process as Google Authenticator for Gmail. There is no internet connection required to get the passcode via your app. The app generates the number and through the magic of computers the website knows what code is currently being generated for you.

Your Gmail account is much more secure if you use this process. The password storage app LastPass also can use the same type of security and I highly recommend the app.

I agree. This is a good thing, and will be better than the grid. A token is a key-fob sized device that will display the 6 (?) generated digits on an LCD screen that you will have to type into VIPS to get access. The UPS use this kind of system.

I also concur with the Google authenticator. It's a great way to improve your email security.

Actually, now that I think of it, I'm afraid they're going to f... this up. That's what happens every time there's some sort of technical change, and this is one that has a major effect. I can just see it, we won't be able to logon to our computers, but hey, we can just do it all on our (non company provided) cell phones, right? LMS, download the bidpack and bid our 150 lines, no problem.

God forbid if you lose your cellphone, or want to log on to another computer when you don't happen to have your "token" on you. As if people are always going to carry their token around. They're gonna lock security down so tight, we won't even be able to get onto VIPS. Not like security was actually a problem, was it? What about FxCal? I foresee the usual screwed up mess every time they change things.

It's a solution looking for a problem....
