Default Airman Certificate address

You may or may not know but the FAA releases your address to the public with your FAA certificate if you allow them. Here's a link to decide if you want your address to be made public. You have to create an account.

https://www.faa.gov/licenses_certifi...certification/

I also found out the FCC does the same but you have no choice in that matter.

How does your medical information being on the FAA's website not constitute a violation of HIPAA privacy law?

Its not your medical info, its your home address thats one your FAA airman's certificate. If you don't want the FAA releasing your address, you have to tell them.

Default From personal experience ...

My dad died in a general aviation accident.

My mother found out when the satellite TV news trucks pulled up to the house!*?

That's awful.

My dad had a mid-air (ejected, survived without a scratch) many years ago during a military training flight. We knew before the trucks rolled up, but the non stop phone ringing and front door knocking for a week was ridiculous.

This database has been around for about a decade. I will say I noticed a considerable reduction in aviation junk mail after telling the FAA to block my address.
