I recently interviewed for Flexjet. As far as the sim ride goes, you can expect a normal takeoff and some basic attitude instrument flying. Climbs, turns and descents with speed changes. Then expect a turn to a VOR and given holding instructions. You may or may not enter the hold depending on whether or not you described the proper entry etc. After that, vectors for raw data ILS to full stop. Sim is then reset, takeoff again with a V1 cut runway heading to 3000. That is it in a nutshell. We had one of their pilots act as PNF since they know you won't know the airplane. Ask for anything you need. Sit in whichever seat you are most comfortable. Your choice.

As far as the interview itself, it was a panel interview. I had 5 people sitting in for mine at various levels of management. Very straightforward. Standard HR interview questions. Nothing technical. You will also be required to fill out a behavior assessment prior to your interview date. This is completed online.

My interview may have been different than the "off the street" guys. I was one on furlough who was called back. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

Anyone know how long it takes to get an interview date after the initial phone interview or is a date given on the spot?

galaxy51 09-28-2013 11:00 PM

Got mine on the spot, thanks for the info splitfinger, did u get re-hired?

splitfinger60 09-29-2013 05:05 AM

I did re-hired. Challenger 300. Interviews can obviously be stressful, but they go out of their way here to make it comfortable. It was the same experience for me the first time I was with the company. It's a great place to work and things are certainly looking up. Th biggest unknown is what will become of the sale to DAC. Good luck to you!

There is one big question that I have about the hiring surge that is about to happen with the Majors. How many people at an organization like FlexJet have their applications in and will drop 2 weeks’ notice as soon as a call comes? Calls are going out for Delta and Southwest, United has been hiring for months now, and American sounds like they will start taking apps next week. So a lot of people are going to have the chance to go work for these companies in the coming months.

I will begin by stating that I have my apps in with all these companies and would surely not say no if they called me first, but I really want the Fractional life I think. So my question is, how many do you think a company like FlexJet might lose in the coming surge at the Majors? I know that most Captains will not go, but what about FO’s? What I am hoping for is that as these guys get hired it will open up more slots for me at FlexJet.

That's great you both got offers of employment at the interview. So many companies make you wait. That makes me like them even more. How long until school starts and what kind of a schedule can a junior f/o expect?

Junior FO or senior CA, there's not really a lot of difference. The difference really are the number of days that you work and the days off that you want. You can expect to work 15 to 16 days per bid period and do the average five and six day trips. If you're looking to do 7/7's, then you'll have to wait awhile for that.

I know that Flex is going to hire 20 this year, any numbers for 2014?

cloud counter 09-30-2013 04:42 PM

Thanks iFlyFL410. Anything less than 8 sounds great!

No announcements for 2014 yet but they may add a third class before year's end. Six new-hires started today. All to the Challengers.

2BEER 10-01-2013 07:00 AM

FWIW, in the interview they told us at least 20 new hires for 2014 as well.

IFlyFL410 10-01-2013 06:26 PM

As of today, we have over 1,000 applications submitted.

galaxy51 10-01-2013 06:41 PM

what's the hire rate been ? as in how many get hired usually out of how many that interview ?

"So you're telling me there's a chance. YES!!" ;)

splitfinger60 10-02-2013 04:52 AM

In the last group of candidates interviewed only 3 of 8 were selected.
As far as next year goes, the numbers vary from 20-40. They don't even know themselves. If business continues as it has the last few months then we may see even higher numbers, who knows. Right now since the company is in transition with ownership, there are more questions than answers to benefits, fleet, hiring etc. Over the next 90 days the picture will be clearer.

As far as the interview goes, in general just know what you are getting into. Fractional/91K isn't for everyone. Be positive! They really want people to be happy here. Focus on customer service #1.

feltf4 10-02-2013 06:04 AM

Sooooo Flexjets going to add 50 long haul Gulfstreams to the fleet?

AirGuideOnline.com ? Flexjet plans to add 50 long-haul aircraft

1900CA 10-02-2013 05:48 PM

FWIW, I got the email from Flexjet this week about the phone interview with no internal recs and what I would consider average times.....

4100TT,3700 Turbine, 1400TPIC (jet and Tprop) current 135 PIC and previous 91K and 121 experience.

I turned it down because I decided its not the direction I want to go with my career and I want to give applicants that really want it a shot, instead of taking up an interview slot when I'm not 100% into it. If Flexjet is what you really want keep at it internal rec or not I think you have a shot!

Good luck to all.

props4ever 10-04-2013 05:49 AM

Is it just a phone interview? Our after the phone you get a meet and greet?

galaxy51 10-04-2013 07:12 PM

I got a call out of the blue, was asked for a good time that I would have 20-30 minutes to speak w/ them, Heather called me at a time we agreed upon and I was not even prepped but she was very pleasant and patient and at the end of some questions about my background, experience, some TMAAT questions, etc, she offered me the in person interview. Later got travel/hotel info via email from her assistant and a link to complete the behavior assessment, instructions recommend you don't think about what they want you to answer but just answer honestly, did just that and it took all of five minutes. Looking forward to the interview and at the very least I will get a trip to fly a jet sim for a bit. Will post follow up after the interview.

Good luck to you and congrats on the interview. Flex is a great place to work. Hope to see you on board.

crewman 10-05-2013 08:47 PM

I am In class for oct 28 not sure what fleet, but it will be one of the challenger fleets. My question is how much international flying does the 300 do compared to the 604/605. Also the interview info is spot on.

galaxy51 10-06-2013 05:19 AM

Congrats, when did you interview ? So do they always make the offer before you leave the interview ? I've been speaking to Flex guys on the road trying to gather as much intel as possible before the interview, I hear the 300 does go to Europe a bit but not as much as the 600's.

Best of luck

crewman 10-06-2013 10:20 AM

Is that Oct 28?

crewman 10-06-2013 04:41 PM

Yes that is correct, oct 28th

MilitaryAV8R 10-12-2013 09:24 AM

Was just checking the website and noticed that they re-listed the First Officer position on 1 Oct. I am hoping that would indicate that they are still hiring and have not filled all the slots. Any thoughts? Fingers crossed.

IFlyFL410 10-12-2013 01:11 PM

Not sure how many more we plan to hire this year but I've heard as many as 40 for next year.

galaxy51 10-15-2013 04:43 AM

Interviewed yesterday, pretty much as previously stated, we got the 45XR sim, instructor sat right seat and ran checks, set everything up. Was a fun little plane just watch ur speed and configurations. Everyone there was awesome and they seemed very genuine, just a cool group of people. They are very serious about living 1.5 hrs from domiciles which are:

DFW, North FLL, South FLL, EWR, HPN, DEN, LA, SNA

Otherwise just a great experience, they want to get to know you and want to make sure you're a good fit for them and vice versa. Hoping to hear back soon. Oh and they did feed us lunch :o)

IFlyFL410 10-15-2013 05:12 AM

I wouldn't worry too much about living with 1.5 hours of base. I've been commuting over 4 hours for seven years now and it's never been an issue. Many others here have been commuting much longer than I. Just show up to work on time and they could care less. The 1.5 hours stems from the call out time for a trip if you happen to be on home reserve on day 1 of the rotation. Don't base your decision to come to work here based on whatever they told you about that. Otherwise, the atmosphere that you described at the interview is spot on to the culture around here.

galaxy51 10-15-2013 08:21 AM

Gotcha, I just brought it up because they made a big deal of it saying it was an issue with some people that do just that. I live close to the NY bases anyway so it's not an issue for me .... I think everyone there lived close to one of the domiciles so that might be influencing who they interview also ...

splitfinger60 10-17-2013 05:10 AM

So the latest and greatest is that hiring is expected to continue well into next year. As for numbers, that's anyone's guess. They have one more slot to fill for classes this year. (3 more classes in total by year end with one more vacancy) They want to hire a pool of about 20 to be "ready" when a class can be put together. Getting training slots in the sims has been difficult.

Fetzervalve 10-17-2013 11:12 AM

Any latest estimates on when we will see Lear 85s and Lear 75s in Flexjet colors? I realize the 85 hasn't even flown yet... Looks like a great performer on paper.

Also, are newhires ever directly hired into the 604/605 or do most newhires feed into the Lear 45/60 and CL30?

galaxy51 10-17-2013 11:18 AM

is that 1 more slot after the last group of interviews this week ? when we were there they said they have a bunch of classes to fill ...

IFlyFL410 10-17-2013 07:00 PM

We're hiring 3-5 more this year and up to 40 next year. New-hires are hired into whichever fleet they need you in. Right now, all new-hires are going directly to the 300 and 605. All FO pay is the same regardless of fleet.

splitfinger60 10-18-2013 05:47 AM

The one more slot was in reference to them being able to obtain one more sim position. I don't know how many new hire positions still need to be filled. My guess is that as they are able to get the sims slots, they will draw from the pool through the remainder of the year. Sim availability is where the bottleneck is.

crewman 10-19-2013 06:30 AM

How many FO's have been hired so far?

IFlyFL410 10-19-2013 03:52 PM

Including the rehires, ten or so maybe??? I'd have to look at the latest seniority list.

Flexjet Doubles Firm Order for Learjet 85s
Flexjet, which will soon be owned by Directional Aviation Capital, doubled its firm order for Learjet 85s today at NBAA 2013. This latest transaction puts the Flexjet order at 115 firm aircraft from Bombardier–including 60 Learjet 85s–and options for 150 more. If all of the options are exercised, this brings the order value total to $5.6 billion “We’re proud to see Flexjet placing their trust in our new Learjet 85,” said Bombardier Business Aircraft president Steve Ridolfi. “This endorsement is a tremendous vote of confidence as we move towards the first flight of the Learjet 85 jet before the end of the year.” The key products in Flexjet’s overall order from Bombardier, according to Directional Aviation Capital chairman Kenn Ricci, are the soon-to-be-certified Learjet 75 LXI (a set of custom interior options marks this Flexjet-only design) and the Learjet 85, which made its public rollout last week in Wichita. “Learjet aircraft is without a doubt an iconic product,” said Ricci. “Significant customer demand has convinced us that increasing the size of the Learjet 85 fleet is not only necessary, but will give us a significant product advantage. With a modern interior, range capability and speed, the Learjet 85 will support our discerning clients and leave us uniquely positioned for our future needs.”

Does Flex issue a iPad to all pilots or only to captains?

Everyone gets an iPad and, for now, a Blackberry. I say "for now" because they are looking at leaving Blackberry and possibly going to the iPhone. Everything, including Jepps, aircraft manuals, FOMs etc, are, or will be, on the iPads completely. Soon, the only paper that will be left on the aircraft will be the QRH.
