Default Need help with Decision

I am going to college in this fall. I'm still deciding on rather to get and chemical engineer degree or and degree in computer programming/networking.

Both are very good degrees. I have friends with both of them.

I never liked chemistry, but I always liked Chemical Engineering. For one, that is one of the more likely engineering jobs that you may be able to strike it rich. Two, it had the highest percentage of girls in engineering.

Computer programming would also be a good major. This may be a little more practical degree as a backup. You would more than likely be able to use this degree down the line if you were furloughed from an airline, at least probably more than the ChemE degree.

Choose whichever you like the best. Both are GREAT choices. I am used to hearing "help me pick between business and political science."

How many different types of shampoo do we really need? Just kiddin. Both will land you jobs after college. However, computer programming is something you can do and still have an airline career. You may be able to do it while you're at home or on the road. It is true that chemical eng. has the most girls but there are other ways to meet ladies on campus. Do what you prefer the most.

FORGET programming if you speak English. It is either outsourced to India or they bring the Indians to you via an H1B visa.

True...Maybe running an Indian restaurant near a IT firm would be more lucrative...

You didn't mention what you want to do with your life. Most guys on forums such as these want to fly, and a degree is a means to an end. If that's your case, pick the degree you think you'll enjoy the most. If you don't intend to use it immediately after graduation, it doesn't matter much what it is. By the time you find yourself furloughed from that Major airline, your degree will be so old that it won't matter.

If you're looking for a degree that you can use for a second job, or alternate income, I would guess that the Computer degree might be more handy. It might also lead to a hobby. Or it might lead to nothing.

I think the most important consideration is the subject that you prefer. Enjoy it, do well, get good grades, frame the degree, move on.
