Why a degree in Professional Piloting?
I’m not even sure what that entails.
Wouldn’t you be better off to get a fall back degree while you pursue your ratings at KSU?
02 cents and all that...

You can do that, but if you want to commit to being a pilot it's a good idea to fully invest in the program. Aviation meteorology, safety, law, etc. All good classes to have, especially the meteorology. You could double major, but that's not a load everyone wants.

I still don’t agree, if the industry ever tanks you need something to fall back on.

Don’t agree with what? I didn’t say you were wrong, I was just giving my side of it. I’m one of the few that can see my self doing anything as a fallback. KSU offered an Associates in Business, which may be a Bachelors now. The associates was 8 extra classes.
KSU is also one of the programs where you can get a RATP at 1000 hrs if you do it right. Always good to have a plan in case things don’t work out, I was just giving other viewpoints.

So I visited both UCM & KSU and I was blown away with the technology that they have at KSU. Also, KSU Polytechnic had more of an actual airport feel than UCM. It felt like KSU will make me more prepared as a new pilot just starting out in the airline industry. I'm leaning on KSU about 90%.

As far as I backup plan goes, I plan on getting a minor in unmanned aircrafts just in case I ever lose my class 1 medical but I kind of share the same mentality as you do. I liked your input because if you are sure about something, you have to commit to it 100%. If you are serious about becoming a pilot, getting a degree in professional piloting or aviation shows that you are more passionate about that profession. A surgeon intern wouldn't get a backup degree in computer science unless he/she didn't feel confident as a surgeon or if they doubt their skills/abilities.

The main argument for an Av degree is that it will get u your RATP with 1000TT. That will save you money in training, and maybe get u a seniority number quicker. But you can't get the RATP until u graduate.

A regional will hire you with or without a Bachelor's, or even without an Associate's for that matter. As long as you come to the interview with your pants on and are eligible for an ATP (or RATP), you are golden.

Most majors are still keen on a Bachelor's, but they don't care in what. The fact that you have a degree is a discriminator that shows you have some level of intellect, but more importantly, the perseverance to grind through an arduous, long term commitment.

In my new hire class at 1 of the Big-4, we had degrees ranging from Art to Physics - it just doesn't matter.

Hey man I just got hit with this news. I am supposed to sign a lease in 2 days near a public school where ill be paying for a bigger portion of flight it looks like, when I could just be living at home and going to this private school while off setting my flight loans with my housing allowance. I have to make this decision not knowing what will happen.

Theyre also trying to get us to use our benefits in an accelerated manner. So a 4 month semester will count as 8 and we won't get double the housing allowance.

This probably deserves its own post since I am sure there are a few non pilot veterans that want to pursue flight training on this board.

The bill HR 5649 only passed the House. Still has a long way to go before the proposed changes are enacted. Even if the bill is signed into law "as is" tomorrow, changes will not go into effect until two years after the year of enactment. You'll be fine.
