Arrow How to study Aviation in U.S being European?

Hi,

First of all, thanks for all your answers and time.

I am a Spanish citizen, and I've been wandering for so many years how can i get a visa to study in U.S, I'm going 5 months to finish my university degree to Missouri and after these 5 months i would like to start my aviation studies over there, because it's way cheaper and it has higher quality training. To study i got a J-1 Visa but it only applies me for living 6 months there, so here it is my question?
Can i obtain another time of type of Visa or can i extend my J-1 Visa?
How did you do the pilots that come from Europe as me to study in U.S? Is it possible and convenient?

Thanks again. Have a great day.

I would try to find a school that offers an F-1 Visa so you can build time instructing or even at an airline for up to 2 years. Most schools that offer a Visa only offer the M-1 which doesn't allow you to work. If you're going back to Europe you'll have to take the 12 written tests and then at least one checkride

It is possible to change your visa type or extend your present visa after you have arrived, with some limitations.

For extending while in the USA, check here:

I would really advise you not to do it this way. I have/had both FAA/JAA and worked for Air Nostrum for 6 years before getting a job in the states (had a green card an a EU passport). If you want to have a job as a pilot in the EU get your training done there. If you want to come to the states get a green card before you start your training here. An FAA license will never get you a job there, and with a student visa you will never get a job here.

There flight schools in the US that train for European licenses.
