Sim and IR?

The reg says
-h) Use of full flight simulators or flight training devices. If the instrument time was provided by an authorized instructor in a full flight simulator or flight training device—
(2) A maximum of 20 hours may be performed in that full flight simulator or flight training device if the instrument time was not completed in accordance with part 142

Instrument flying is a skill set that may very well one day save your life….or end it.
You use a sim to be taught and practice things that are either too dangerous to do in the airplane such as unusual attitude recovery and various instrument failures in “actual instrument conditions”.
Practice approaches that are not available in the vicinity of your training airport such as a back course ILS or NDB approaches.
Yes you should still practice them.
In addition you can save a lot of flying around time by rapid repositioning for another approach with different wind and turbulence conditions. Something that you can’t do in real life. If your home airport has an ILS you can do about 3 in an hour. With the same conditions obviously. In a sim you could do 6 in the same amount of time with changing crosswinds, tailwind, lowering cloudbase etc etc etc.
Learn and practice all sorts of holds with different entries and winds.
Of course you NEED an instructor!
Trust me when we say that a good instructor is worth their time in gold even with a basic sim.

Hello guys!
When I started flying IFR I learned the 6HITS rule which we all know about. After those 6 months of currency if you don't do those '6HITS' you are no longer current and as far as I know, you got ANOTHER 6 months to stay current either with a Safety Pilot, Simulator, or Instructor. The thing is I can't find this regulation anywhere.
The thing is a got an IPC in November 2021. So I was current until May 2022 and I didn't do the 6HITS. So in June 2022 I jumped in a Sim and got the 6HITS done so I should be current until December 2022 right?
Also, do you need to be current in order to start training in a Regional? I am starting ATP/CTP for a regional on Sept.
Best,
Victor.
