Default FAA Checkairmen

Is one of these guys him? If so, you don't want to raise too many objections. Just move on... it's not worth it.

Is there anything else to the story? You seem to be giving up pretty easy for such a bogus failure.

I'm doing some fact finding now. I might take it to our standards department. There may have been powerlines there (structure), which voids my case. I get the point... at the CFI level, you need be on your toes. But it would be nice if I didn't have to retrain and go back again for something so trivial.
This is silly. Very silly. you are going to go fly so you can *learn* something that could have been handled as a debriefing item. Learning is often defined as a change in behavior. I think you learned that in a simulated failure, you terminate the *simulation* no lower than 500ft. So WHAT is to be learned? Simple.. the DE is superior to the lowly supplicant who has to endure a rite of passage before getting the secret handshake.

I would request a meeting with the department head. Unfortunately, the paper work may have been submitted and thus you may be locked into a retest. As a former check airman, I know who would be doing a carpet dance in front of the boss had I done something similar. It would be ME, not you that would be up for some retraining.

But dumb. just real real dumb

So, is that the Chief Pilot and Assistant Chief Pilot?

There's only so much you can do. It's a stupid failure and it was the only thing I did wrong. Steep sprials and eights on pylons were satisfactory but "marginal" in his eyes (marginal still passes). I would have still failed even if I had done those two perfectly. However, since I am going for the recheck, he included steep spirals and eights on pylons on the unsatisfactory list. The more I think about it, the more proposterous it gets.

He's only supposed to repeat you on "unsat" items. What did he write on the pink slip?

The three of them. Apparently descending below 500 feet made him change his mind about the other ones.

Who is the DPE and what airport are they out of? Because everyone should stay away from BS like that. The DPE will figure out why they dont have any business after a while. Like an earlier poster said get in touch with the DPE's POI over at the FSDO.
