You can fly a C310 with IO-520's for 20gal/hr combined if you pull the power way back, about 21''/2100RPM. You'll still get about 140 +/- 5 kts pending specific airplanes. This is the R-models with the long noses. Pull it a lil further you can get it down to 17-18/hr That's how you build time!!!!

Now if you're doing constant approaches and touch-n-goes, it'll drink through it pretty fast. This method I'd recommend doing some mid-range X-C work combined with an approach and landing at each airport. Go into some busier places to really make it interesting(but there goes your fuel burn too for keeping the speed up).

You can plan 10gal per hr in the Duchess.
