ATP in Atlanta was ok when I was there. It's a mill- don't expect to get treated well and you won't be disappointed with it. If you want to be treated well perhaps you would want to try and find a decent FBO or small-scale flight school. I know a couple near Atlanta that are top notch, conscientious operations.

The really important learning happens when you're the PIC...as long as he does some CFI or cargo or something else piston before heading to the airlines he should be in good shape.

FAA Commercial pilot training does not require a four-year college program.

Congratulations on your new license. It sounds like you're the right kind of student for ATP. Good luck with the rest of the training and enjoy it! I flew with a guy a few months ago that had just passed his instrument check ride at ATP. He didn't know how to transition airspace at a class D airport, couldn't go direct to a VOR without using the GPS, couldn't figure a direct entry to a hold, deviated altitude in the old by 600 feet and then, after finally setting up an ILS, went full scale deflection and tried to land! He also couldn't say anything correctly on the radio. I'm not badmouthing ATP. It's just not a program for everyone.

Has anyone heard anything bad about ATP PHX? Trying to decide where to go. Hows the weather been at the DFW location? Been getting grounded a lot due to the consistent storms?

I heard ATP in PHX was great....although it gets so hot that you can't fly in the afternoon.....

As far as TX...not grounded too much.

And no matter what anyone else says....ATP is not a spoon feeder. If YOU aren't motivated and if YOU don't study, you won't make it. It's a good program for those that can keep up with the pace and take it seriously and not expect ratings to be handed to them....but that's a whole 'nother thread.

How do you like the ATP in DFW...I'm here in ATL right now in the private pilot class. Our class is really far behind, we are supposed to be finished with our private by august 4th. Started on June 4th. We only have about 30 of our 85 hours? Are all of the students down there on time with their hours and instruction? They are telling us down here that we might have to time build the cessnas while we are learning the seminoles in the ACPP. Let me know how it is in DFW if you please! Also at ATP you are right you do have to study HARD HARD HARD, but at the same time the first month I was here there was no instruction what so ever. We took our knowledge test then sat around for a week watching King videos that were preparing us to take the knowledge test that all of us passed. Things have been getting better though. Anyone thinking about coming to ATP I would not recommend ATL without making sure that there are enough planes and instructors!!!

Daily schedule varies due to a/c availablility and sim.....it's really great for me personally because it doesn't get boring and monotonous, and gives me time to study on my own. It also depends on the program you are in. The private pilots are pretty much here 8-5 -

Love it here in DFW. We are right on schedule - and sometimes even ahead. I bet you will finish your private by Aug 4th, then you will do your timebuilding up to the 85 after you get your license. As far as learning the PA44 while you are timebuilding- just stay on top of your game! I went out and flew a 172 w/my bf right before my Seminole checkride and it was fine (some ppl discouraged me from doing it - said would screw up my sight picture etc etc).The Seminole flies totally different to me than the 172, and in that way I was able to keep it separate. Keep on studying! :)
