Umm...I think he was referring to your grammar. And I'm not talking about my degree, I'm talking about flight training. I just can't get over the fact that people fork over 50k when it can be done for a third of that.

I am just wondering what you count as flight training? Only the time you fly with an instructor? Or do you include all of the money you spend building solo time toward you commercial? Do you have your own plane?

Let’s say you spend $50,000 and end up with 250hours that is only $200 per hour, and that includes: ground time, check rides, pricey multi time, and instructor fees. That doesn’t seem that bad!

That’s why I don’t understand people bad mouthing the big aviation schools ether (not counting ERAU) At Western Mich. and UND you pay about $80,000 and you come out with: Comm/Inst/Multi and a CFI/CFII and a B.S. Plus new aircraft!

It’s not cheep but not a bad deal. All you need to do is apply for instate tuition, which is easy to get all you need is a drivers licence.

.

80K for a degree and your ratings...insane. I got a BA In criminology for a grand total of 67 dollars a credit hour at a state school in florida which worked out to about 8k when all was said and done. I think said school is around 100 a credit hour now, which is still pretty good.

You can get your ratings for a lot cheaper from a local FBO. The latest and greatest while costing more, does not make you a better pilot. I wouldn't be surprised if you go all the way through MEII for 35k from a local FBO.

PS...people will take you more seriously if you improve your grammar, you come off like a 14y/o kid using his parents computer. If you are in fact college educated it would do you well to spell check your resume.

OK people if you wanna talk about loans and aviation I'm your man. Had to pay for my own college and got married in my jr. year. After all was said and done after 4 years of deffered interest and the principal amount I refinanced for around $120k but that is for 2 people my degree by itself was around $80k came away with inst/comm/cfi/cfii/me/mei a 4 year degree in aviation managment and 2 year degree in flight along with my wifes teaching degree. Is it impossible to do. no. our monthly payment is around $1000 for both of our degrees. Considering she is a teacher and I run an airport (and may go to a regional) we bring in around $5000 a month but if you live in a good area i.e. indiana like myself cost of living is low. We are taking my entire income and paying towards the loans and living off her income. This "in theory" will pay our loans off in less than 5 years. They key is to pay it off quick don't let it go for the entire 30year life of the loan you would pay over 100k just in interest!!! The important thing is to have a plan if you have to take loans and you really want to be in aviation go for it. I was the first in my family to go to college so it was new to me and everyone else. I could have done it for a lot cheaper and I could do it all over again I would have gone to med school and made a heck of a lot more money in life for the 120k in loans.!!! good luck to ya

$20,000/250 flight hours= $80/hour. I don't know how or where you can go through training for that cheep!
Is English your primary language?

I've been researching flight school costs and local FBO instruction costs. he best local I found is $55/hr rental on 152's and $115/hr rental on 172 glass cockpit and $280/hr ona Piper Seneca, $35/hr inst on private and $40/hr inst on any past private.

Comparing those prices to Air Safety, ATP, Phoenix East and Ari Ben, the local flight school is still approx $5-7k more for the same hours compared to Air Safety. To compare to Ari Ben's 222 total time and 200 of it ME, it would cost $20k more just to rent a ME at the local FBO (no instruction included to get those ME hours).

It is cheaper than ALLATP or Phoenix east by a few grand. Here is the breakdown for averaged cost per hour based on the advertised pricing and hours at each school.

Local FBO = 222 hrs (72ME) for $41,882 or avg $188.66/hr (includes instruction.

AIr Safety = 305 hrs (107ME) for $55,586 or avg $182.25/hr. no private cousre is 265 hr (107ME) for $44,961 or $169.66/hr.

ALLATP = 200 hrs (???ME) for $49,995 or $249.98/hr

Phoenix East = 141 hrs (???ME) for $39,905 or $283.01/hr

Ari Ben = 222 hrs (200 ME) for $35,995 or $162.14/hr

You tell me if it is better to go from Private through Comm SE/ME, Inst, CFI, CFII, CFI ME at the local or through a flight training school. If you find the right school, it's cheaper.

If you received all your training for under $20k tell me who the FBO is and what their rates are so I can go there.

Sallie Mae is the root of all that is evil in the lending industry.

I got $45k in loans from Sallie Mae that helped me pay for out-of-state tuition and flight fees while at Purdue. 10k is low-interest Federal Stafford loans and 35k of that is private loans at a higher interest rate. By the time I started repayment, the total including interest was almost 60k. Both loans are on 15 year notes but my wife and I plan to have it paid off in no more than 8, hopefully sooner.

SM makes it an absolute pain in the ass to pay down your principal early, either via large principal-only payments or paying extra every month to apply toward principal. They messed up my monthly payments SIX MONTHS IN A ROW, even when I only paid the set monthly amount. I got tired of talking to Floyd in India and now only speak with American agents, who half the time still manage to fark things up.

a.) this guy has a rich uncle with a plane w/ free rental
b.) forged all his flight time in his log book
c.) got it done back in 1935.
