Default How to Simplify Airspace

What is the best way to simplify airspace and explain it to someone who knows nothing about it?

Are we talking about a person who is learning the system as a pilot, or someone completely outside the industry?

Upside-down wedding cakes!!!!!!! Importance and restrictions are alphabetical A(IFR only), B(Controlled w/ radar, but clearance required), C(Radar coverage, just talk to them and have a transponder), D(Just talk to them), E(Technically controlled, still has somewhat restrictive vis & cloud requirements as the above, but it's still a free-for-all), G(No "F" airspace, but G means GO for it!)

The best way to simplify airspace? Fly IFR.

I am a visual learner, I learned it best with pictures. It depends on how the person you are teaching it to likes to learn things.

That brings a question to mind. For you drivers who've been around for awhile, what was it like flying in the old airspace system? Better or worse? Was it a big pain to switch?

AOPA has a really neat graphic with different types of airspace and their requirements/characteristics... might want to give that one a shot.
