It didn't suck all week. I'm just down the road from MQY and I flew all week. There was one day of storms, but otherwise good. No results yet from our team either.

I know that Riddle Prescott got 1st overall, and the Sportsmanship Awards went to Western Mich. After taking home the AA Safety Award two years in a row, Florida Tech gave it up to OSU I think.

That's all that my buddy at school could remember.

Congrats to everyone who participated. I miss those competitions, they were a lot of fun.

Back when I was at Oklahoma State ('84-88 Flying Aggies) I thought they had won that competition more times than any other school. I haven't followed this since I left school. Are they still in the running usually or have the ERAUs taking over as they seem to have done this year?

From the mid 80's to the early 90's the National SAFECONs were dominated by the University of North Dakota. Since the 92 or so, it's usually a toss up between UND or one of the ERAU's, with an occational smaller school once in a while.

I competed in the '93 & '94 National SAFECON's. My hat is off to all the competitors. With the advent of GPS and glass cockpits in GA aircraft, let's hope good old fashion pilot skills never become a lost art! I still put the skills/techniques I learned years ago from my time on the team, to use every day.

I competed in some of the ground events - but not the flying events. Those were for the guys/glas that had been on the team longer >G< I enjoyed the weekends out at the airport practicing thoguh. Great picnic atmosphere, lots of good people, good airplane talk, and good times all the way around.

This may be a different trophy (award) than the SAFECON. I got this information from the OSU Flying Aggies website:

"In 1951, the Flying Aggies Flight Team attended their first air meet. The team has compiled a distinguished record of championships on both the regional level and the national level.
The organization has won the Grover Loening trophy, a national award presented to the nation's outstanding aviation club, 22 times. This record is unmatched by any other collegiate flying club. This achievement is due to a high level of membership involvement and club activities."
