I think you are off to a great start, having the mindset that you wish to be a great instructor!!! When I looked back on my training and instructors, and I had some good ones, I looked at the deficiancies and holes and things that I didn't like. I swore I wasn't going to be a crappy instructor and do the best job I could. Remember the student is the customer and they are employing you to provide a service. They are not there for you to abuse, belittle and so
on. I see it happen with alot of instructors and it drives me crazy. I have a full time 135 job, but I'm Cheif FI at the school I taught at, I still love it.
Good luck

Oh well, small update
Got my CPL finally, and I just started the Flight Instructor ground school this week .
Doing the MEI now as my initial rating part 61, see how fast I can dig through it.
All the pointers and tips in this thread will sure help me out, and I'll try to keep you guys updated as I progress.
The time ahead now I guess I'll devote to studying, and using other students as guinea pigs (typo?). I've been tutoring people since I got my PPL, but I guess I should try and get the tutoring to be better structured now instead of doing it "by feel".

forgive me if someone already mentioned this, but there is no substitution for reading the regs completely. highlight and tab the entire book for quick reference later. at my school, we had discussions that were always a lot better resolved when someone could pull out the regs and quickly find sections that applied to the topic, such as the two regs you put together to difinitively say a safety pilot logs PIC. heresay and anything your instuctor told you mean nothing unless you can back up every statement out of your mouth with a credible source.

Yea that's a good advise.
I just went through the entire FAR part of the far/aim a few days ago and highlighted everything I deemed important, and put some nice tabs in there too for easy reference.
Think I should also put the hour requirements for all the certs into my own wording so it's easier to put together when/if the DPE asks me what I have to do with a student with so so many hours
