I'm an 04' grad in the program, and POPA's former flight instructor(taught him the cocky part)!!! I got in with an 1180 SAT, high 20-something ACT(can't remember), and a 10.66 GPA(my school was f-'d up, 11-point scale). Anyways, it's not 100% of grades that get you in, a well rounded individual has a chance as I was heavily involved with extra-curicular activities such as 3-sports a year, and 4-H, NHS, and a few clubs. They only can take in appx 120 new students a year due to aircraft availability, and I think 75-80 of us actually made it all the way.

Anyways, good luck, make sure you get everything submitted early!!! Oct 25th was the deadline when I was a senior, but I'm sure it floats year to year pending their calender.

Yeah I think it's Nov 15 nowadays. I think they offer spots to 110-120 and only 75 or so accept. At least that's how it is now.

i called a few days ago and they told me they only take in 65 freshmans so i thought i post a thead up asking about grades and stuff since it is a very competative school. and ewfflyer was that SAT score combined with eng , math and critical reading or just eng and math? cuz i did pretty bad on sats i think im gonna do alot better on ACT since things on it see easier.


also what about the admission essays? like how importantly do that value those?

I'm certain that ewfflyer's SAT was combined math and eng on the old system. IDK if the ACT is easier and I'd imagine it's equal with the SAT. When I went through the admissions essay was optional. Now, I would take it seriously if I were you.

Every big airline pilot I've talked to agrees with this advice. The plus side of the aviation college is the internships; the downside is you may not have any other education, and only knowing how to aviate might not go as far as you would like it to.

I remember doing an essay, but I'm a year behind you. Not sure if it was optional or not, but knowing me I don't think I would have done it if it was optional! I'm not sure who all reads those essays, but I can tell you that personality counts, and an essay could probably make a big difference if you're a borderline student.

If I didn't get accepted to Purdue my second choice was the ASU flight program that is tied to the Mesa cesspool (cough, cough, I mean pilot development program). They offered me a $28,000 scholarship and I got nothing from Purdue. I got a 29 on the ACT, but if you get in the thirties I think they start offering money.

To fatboy: I know this is just a message board, but it's not a bad idea to work on your grammar now. It's one thing to get lazy if you're a pilot closer to retirement than date of hire, it's something completely different when you're trying to get into college. Just a piece of advice.

Anyways, someone else mentioned that taking another degree while flying, as I look back I wish I had done that also, but it's one of those things that are clearer in hindsight.

Good luck to all interested, and future grad's, tough times ahead but you'll get through, it wasn't that great of an industry when I graduated either.
