Default cost of...?

what do ya think it'll cost for an IR, CSEL + CMEL, and initial CFI rating at a part 61 school if i bust my ***. I curently have 70 hrs including 30 x-country. plane is 90 per hour inst. 30.

im just fishing for some numbers as im about to call up sallie and get the show on the road. i figure about 30K would be plenty if i kept a high pace with the training. am i thinking straight here or is this a reasonable sum of money to finish my training? My instructor thought 25k might be enough. should i take out less? anyone wanna chime in?

Not sure about an exact number... flight training does vary depending on individual skill level and how much you're willing to study on your own (remember... we can read the book to you, or you can save money and read it yourself )

Here are some things to consider:

- Figure out exactly how many hours you'll need (minimum) to meet the FAR requirements for each rating you want [X/C time, required Dual X/C flights for IR and CSEL, Complex, etc]
- Add about 10-20 hours extra Dual for each rating (most people don't finish at the absolute minimum.
- Don't forget to factor in the cost of your groundwork for your CFI... a lot of that rating is learning how to teach the ground knowledge.

Hope that helps you!

Also curious... what kind of plane are you getting for $90/hr?

All I can suggest is decide which state you wish to do your flight training in and then do the research on all the Part 61 schools in terms of cost.

It may take a little time but it will be well worth it.

You are about right with your estimate of $30k by my experience. You are going about it the right way also. The only Part 141 training I had was for an ME add-on to CSEL, which cost $3,000 through AllATPs. I am still convinced 2 years later this is the most cost effective way to do it.

Thinking about starting my PPL. I am active duty military at the present time. I talked to an instructor at a small FOB by our base. He told me 40 hours is usually the norm but told me it'll take probably 70 hours to get my PPL. He is gonna charge me $60 for plane rental and $30 for intruction/hour. Is this a good deal? He told me to invest in a PPL package (CD's) or different other kinds of kits for my training and for the written and oral test. Is he correct? Thanks for the advice/recommendations.

It seems like a fair price in today's market but I've been out of the loop a long time. 40 hours is the minimum. I'd hardly say it's the norm if you're flying anywhere near controlled airspace(which will benefit you in the long run).
