I'm excited! I have 2 more weeks of just ground, then I start ground & flying. I've already taken the vow of poverty, and have my PB&J sandwiches and Ramenn noodles stockpiled in my kitchen! I think I'll be fine with the spins (I dont get motion sickness). The hardest part so far has been to remember what the thought process of being a brand new flight student is, and how to explain the material in a way that I would've understood on lesson 1. I have too much technical jargon in my mind.
I'm hoping to get a USAFR, or ANG A-10 pilot slot, as I'm in my JR year of College.

You hit the nail on the head. Remebering to keep your explanations simple truly is one of the most diffucult things for a new CFI. One CFI told me that the key to being a CFI was not how you fly the plane, but how you transfer knowledge.
Good luck and keep it simple- you'll be fine.

When you do the spins, try to have the guy do real spins... not these half turn deals... also if you can get into something that'll do flat or inverted spins.. those are really great for understanding the aerodynamics and c.g. effects of spins... especially developing instincts that'll be of great benefit later when students try to kill you. Instructors get a real disservice when they don't do full spins and different types of spins during the sign-off.

If you feel quesy during spins... you should probably have your man card revoked.

Come on now....I think that is a little rough.
I got sick on my third flight with the introduction of stalls!
Of course I probably shouldn't have eaten a platter of spaghetti and drank chocolate milk for lunch just before flying either.
Also.....I upchucked just a tad after I found myself at 20,000+ feet, in an inverted spin over the aircraft carrier too I think I'll keep my man card for a little while longer

jsf - often airsickness can come from nerves and stress as much as anything else. Keep us posted on your progress!

I figured - just wanted to make sure. You never know around here.
Yeah - spaghetti and C milk at the same time. You know those college years - you think you're invincible and anything goes!
When I lost it on short final all over my instructors arm as she attempted to get a bag in front of my face - I remember thinking that my flying days were over before they started!

Boy, I'll bet that airplane still stinks!

Yeah, I figured that was in jest. IIRC, Eddie Rickenbacker had that problem on his first few flights. Nobody revoked his, although 26 or so Germans tried to ...

You should be. You'll learn more through and by teaching than you ever will in any ground school course anywhere. CFI is the best 'rating' to get (and keep) if you're really serious about learning. Good luck!

Best to start with INVERTED spins - that way the upright ones seem like a piece of cake. Plus you'll get to review inverted slow flight and inverted stalls. Once you get used to them they're no big deal, really. Impresses the FSDO guys!

The nervousness associated with spins goes away so quickly if one simply has a CFI that they trust and that will explain each aspect of the maneuver. I know I really enjoyed them once I saw my instructor perform one. Get those writtens done, and the rest is FUN!
