Just an update for any one keeping track, if you're interested. I'm wrapping up my ground this week, and start flying next Monday. it's a good feeling that I'm going start flying on a regular basis again.
Still have to work on my training syllabus, and lesson plans.
I took my writtens before I started the CFI course. I took 4 nights (with 2 full days) to study for the FOI and FIA tests. Walked into the testing center on the morning of the 5th day, took both tests, and walked out 3 hours later with an 84% on both. Not good, but not bad for only studying 2 books in only 4 days.

Thanks for the update. Hope it continues to go well for you. Don't worry about your test scores- when it comes to the CFI examiners are looking that you know how to transfer knowledge, not that you know everything. I had a friend fail his initial CFI because although he scored in the high 90's on his exams and was practically an encyclopedia on flying, he couldn't explain the maneuvers in a way that the examiner (or a student for that matter) could understand them. Remember to keep it simple!
Best of luck and happy flying.

I did some spin training for my private certificate and it wasnt nearly as horrifying as i thought. I actually remember cracking the largest smile ive ever cracked during flight (other than my solo) and saying "omg thats amazing!" I asked if we could do a spin or two because i was mortified I'd inadvertantly turn a power-on still into a spin. My CFI did both of them and it showed me just how hard you have to work to get a 172 into a spin. Now, doing them myself may be a bit more scary. My CFI has 40,000+ hours of flying time and has been flying planes since...well... lets just say hes also a qualified DC3 instructor. Its easy to trust him lol
