I also want to say that there is some light at the end of the tunnel. I know a few people, and including myself that have received money and were able or are in the process on getting a type rating.
The key is to be PATIENT. I know that's difficult with times right now, but hang in there. Be persistent, make a good case and hopefully everything will work out.

Hey one note guys...
This money is meant for a specific purpose...to lead to a job. I'm not saying that anyone is or is not, but please do not just go get a type for the heck of it. Have a legitimate reason. Also, the money does not necessarily have to be used for a type rating. Some people have gone to RN school on it or gotten training towards a job to use as a backup to aviation. I almost used it for card dealing school (i just moved to vegas). Just a thought for everyone.
The biggest reason why I say this is that all the agencies Ive talked about with guys require follow up on the job scene after you complete training. Did the person get a job? Did they get a job that required this training? They use data to examine whether training is effective or not.
A bunch of guys who never intend on using a Citation type go out and get one, report back that they are now flying something else, kinda screws the next guys along. Just a thought.

MA also told me they wouldn't give me any money because the pilot market is so bad....I guess some states need more evidences that you will get a job if they finance your training.
But I agree with the previous posts, getting a 737 type rating will not really help you out, nobody hires in the US on this a/c and most of the oversea jobs require hours on type.
It's still a free type rating and might get useful in the future but I don't think it will give you a job in this current economy.
Anyway congrats on those in training and getting out of unemployment.

GA. I have just started working on trying to get a type rating with WIA. It does not look promising. The thing that kills me is that GA will give you money to go to pharmacy tech school. The state of GA does not require pharmacy techs to be licensed. You get on the job training. If you want to be licensed, you can buy a book to study and take the test. You don't have to go to school. What a waste of money.

I have my first meeting with a case manager in two weeks here in South Carolina. That alone took three weeks to get after my orientation class which also took three weeks from my first call to attend. Lots of people on the streets looking for help.

For anyone looking in Cincinnati:
They are very helpful in getting you set up in the WIA / dislocated worker programs, you have to attend a career seminar at the careers office where you get assigned a career co-ordinator. After the seminar you arrange a time to meet one-on-one with your co-ordinator and fill in the relevant paperwork, after this is completed we looked up relevant schools and courses on an internal (i think) website and then it's a waiting game.
My outcome was not as I'd hoped for. I was told that while I was eligible for up to $5000 in WIA funding, they would not pay for a type rating. This was apparently out of the hands of my co-ordinator and he said that I'd got to the final hurdle and then it got dismissed by 'the boss'.
I have been trying to talk to them again recently, four months later, to see if there are any other opportunities to progress with my case. So far no luck.
General question:
What is stopping you going to another state to get the WIA funding as it is a federal program? Do you have to prove residency? It is my understanding now that you can only apply in the county where you live and the county your company was/is based in, is this correct? It seems strange that a federal program would count so many people out simply because one county agrees with a training method and another doesn't, any thoughts?

Nothing, shop around. The only problem that you have is travel. You may not wanna try CA if you live in NY cause like you've already found out, it is going to take multiple visits. Just go in and see what they say at all the stations around you.
However, the boss-lady brings up a good point. The idea of this is to get you a job. If there are no jobs out there that you will qualify for after you do the training why should they waste the money?
Also, if you give up on the type rating as an option, don't give up on the money. There is plenty of money out there to re-train you for another job or back up incase you lose your medical. Open up your options.
