For people in WA, "pilot" has to be on the approved in-demand jobs list and it is not. Basically that means us pilots are immediately disqualified from even applying for WIA benefits....in WA that is.

What if you want to do something besides flying? WIA has nothing to do with what you did. It is what you want to do.

You are correct, I was referring to the attempt of getting funds for a type rating. You can get WIA funds for anything that is on the "in-demand" job list. I just thought we were talking about type ratings though.....

Another thanks from myself who was "furloughed" in Feb, although the company classified it for me and the other 20 or so pilots a "termination" (due to positions being eliminated). I guess this was good since they gave us a small severance package that helped for the first month of UE. I finally have my day after two months of waiting to get into my local Illinois UE office for the counseling. Sounds similar to DnW's post as I have to take a math test, and bring in the previously stated doc's. I'll report back to my finding and what happened. Im just ****ed that I couldnt not get in for 2 months! AND, that I am at a a standstill until I complete this couseling (there must be only 2 of them for the county?) Also, the Veterans administration has 1 worker that works from 8-noon. Has not been much help, and feel sorry for the new vets being discharged at this time. Hopefully I can help in some small way, if able. Im looking at getting out of flying after 16 years of 135 and 121, 2 types, and just passed the 8000 hr mark--would have liked to have gotten to 10K. My big runaround has not only been with the UE office, but my creditors as well. Its no secret these days with all thats in the news about foreclosures and such, but I find it almost comical that my credit card company was not willing to work with me because I was current with no past late payments. I told them thats the way I would like to keep it in order to maintain my credit rating. But they said they would not, and that I would have to be late in order for them to provide assistance. The manager then called me back 10 mins after speaking and said they were reducing my credit line. I said thanks for also reducing my credit score at the same time. I'll do the who shibang of what happended after.

BillyBaroo,
You may want to check out DaveRamsey.com. Why would you want a high "i love debt" score. You can't borrow money when you don't have a job. Dave's strategies have helped me cope with unemployment.

Keep in mind that WIA can also be used for recurrency training and even flight time. Plus, you can do the whole nursing program, truck driver, and so on. These are your taxpayer dollars at work.

In CA, if the first county doesn't have money, go to the next. The only criteria is that your company has to have operated or conducted business in that county, fairly easy for pilots to prove. The good job counselors know where the money is, the poor ones tell you to eff off.

Go in with a list of job leads to prove there is a market, a intent-to-hire letter is even better.

Don't take the first, or fifth "no".

I was approved and confirmed for B737 type at Higher Power in TX. I'm a MI resident and went to the Troy office and they had NOOOO idea what they were doing.

I did not give up and did the research. Ended up being assigned to Cheryl Radtke out of the Liviona office. She is awesome. She knows how to work the system. Total time to class date was less than three months. Approved for the $10,000 as well as receiving a check in my name for $1064 for food and hotel (upon completing the program and submitting my receipts). If anybody from MI has any questions feel free to PM me.

I've been working on this for a couple days and some of Nebraska's approved providers include types in B767/757 and B737 and one school that offered a Citation 500 type. Still not clear on the elegibility, or prerequisites. I'm gonna keep on digging.
