Instrument/Commercial SEL Initial
#11
Gotta perform "emergency procedures" in a complex plane I'm pretty sure too. So obviously he'd have to be proficient in an emergency gear extension, but I'm sure that a steep spiral might not be out of the question either. I think the best plan of attack is to ask the examiner to get a solid idea of what to expect. The oral would be a pretty long one too with the already-long instrument one and the in-depth systems questions for the commercial one. They're just two vastly different checkrides. Sounds like a pretty full plate to me, but if anyone can prepare him you can! I've got some pretty good gouges I could get you if you need them too.

Unless you have some compelling reason to do both checks in one, I don't really see the point in trying to cram it all in. If you focus on instrument and just get that done, you could get the comm. SEL stuff done in a few days right after the instrument check. Besides all the flying, I couldn't imagine doing the oral exams for both instrument and commercial all at once. Instrument is such a challenging rating by itself!

Sounds like everyone has the same opinion on this one. I appreciate the feedback and if I do go through with this...it will be a trial only...i.e. if thing are going well the first few lessons I will have to figure something else out.
